General / reset region using shapefile

As far as I understand, the Reset Region option is currently based on the sparse cloud only. I am trying to align multiple surveys (different times) to the same region extent.

Is there away to select/crop points in the sparse point cloud OR reset the region using a shapefile? If not, is there any workaround?

General / orthomosaic from sparse vs dense cloud

Hi there,

Im reconstructing a highly complex/very-high res vegetation scene from handheld photos.

Just wondering why the quality of the orthomosaic from the (cleaned) sparse point cloud (see attached sparse) is much better than that from depth maps or (cleaned) dense point cloud (see attached dense).

Is it just that the sparse mosaic is smoothed out and looks better but the dense mosaic is more accurate and has better dealt with distortions?

General / region orientation

Hi all,

Im trying align the orientation of the orthomosaic using markers with no success. I have captured a "3D" scale bar with 6 markers: 1 - 2 defines the vertical axis and 9 - 10 and 7 - 8 the horizontal axis (see attached picture).

I would like to build a DEM with the correct orientation and export the orthomosaic looking from the top.

Ive been trying to build the DEM using planar/markers but if I select horizontal 7-8 (or 8-7) then the orthomosaic is oriented vertically and if I select vertical 1-2 (or 2-1) I get an empty DEM.

Any suggestions?

General / scale bars vs 3D ground control points

Hi all,

How many scale bars would be required to remove radial distortion on a model? Is there an equivalent to the suggested 9-12, well distributed full 3D ground control points? Or the use of scale bars is never equivalent to full 3D GCPs?

Hi all,

Trying to clip the extent of exported orthomosaics or pointclouds using a shapefile in 1.6.3.

I can see the shapefile extent overlaid on Ortho view but option is greyed out (see attached). Any ideas?

Hi all,

Im getting an memory-related error (attached) when trying to create a mesh (based on depth maps) from 8k+ images (@20MP).

Is there a workaround beyond splitting the cameras into many chunks?

General / Error when creating orthomosaic from thermal imagery

Hi all,

Im processing thermal images taken with a Flir Vue Pro. The images were georeferenced using coordinates from less frequent RGB images. The point cloud seems ok but tilted and resultant orthomosaic consists of only a few pixels, even when rotating the region. Not sure what is going on as same project worked with the previous Photoscan version.

General / seeing through sparse vegetation

Hi all,

Im trying to get ground points through very sparse vegetation and wondering if anyone has suggestions in terms of processing. At the moment I have high overlap (80% forward and side), combining nadir and oblique images and using aggressive depth filtering to build the dense point cloud. Any ideas?

Is optimization using the imported camera accuracy (for example from the P4 RTK's XMP) or is it using the measurement accuracy defined in the reference settings?
