Wow! That changelog is impressive  :) Great work! Can't wait to check it out. Will it be possible to install the viewer on other network clients?

I would also love support for 3dconnexion i Photoscan! It feels so limited without it after having worked with it in for instance Rhino.

Feature Requests / Icons suitable for higher screen resolution.
« on: June 19, 2014, 02:45:22 PM »
I recently got a 4k screen which is giving me some problems in several applications - especially photoshop where i would have to use a magnifying glass to be able to read menus and see icons. The screen resolution is 3840X2160. I've tried to scale text and icons by 200% in the screen options in Win 7. This works in most programs - also in PS, except for the icons... Would it be possible to implement alternative sizes or something like that. I've added a screenshot to point out the areas that i find problematic.

Cool :) Mener jeg sendte deg en PM her tidligere, Kjellis85. Flott at du ble med i gruppa.

General / Any Norwegians here?
« on: May 03, 2014, 11:27:26 AM »
Hi everybody.
I'm using Photoscan as a way of documenting maritime cultural heritage, and I'm located in northern Norway. I want to get in touch with other photoscan users in Norway to form a community. I'm planning to arrange seminars, workshops and such - and it would be nice to know if there are any guest-speakers available around. Also it would be nice just to know if there are any norwegians out there to discuss with, and exchange experiences with.

I have made a facebook group, and I really hope to get in touch with others in my region. Either there or here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/fotogrammetri/

I consider myself a newbie, but i have a blog that I update now and then:
http://baatnerden.blogspot.no/

I also have some models on sketchfab:

Looking forward to get in touch with more people around here.

Found this in a faq about ADC-cameras: "The ADC is limited to capturing the spectrum from 0.52 microns (green light) to the near-infrared, no blue wavelengths are captured. A "regular" digital camera is designed to see only the visible spectrum but cannot capture near-infrared wavelengths."

Could it be a problem with repeating patterns? Maybe adding some random leaves around the bowl would help.

I guess there is a reason why you are doing this with the adc-camera, but in this case I think your model would be better with a "normal" one.

It looks like the shadows moves with the sun. The longer the shadow is thrown, the more deviation.

Feature Requests / Re: Masking - Simple Right Click Mouse Menu

+1

I would also like the ability to push "esc" to cancel the tool with the lasso-like icon. I use this a lot, combined with other selection tools, and its an annoyance to have to fulfill at least a triangle before beeing able to do something else (if the lasso/polygon tool was active when i clicked in the image).

David, this is absolutely perfect. Seems like were working in the same field. These are very good pointers for me to get started in Rhino. Are these tools you mention standard tools in Rhino? Do you consider Rhino a must have for this line of work, or have you seen other software that looks better?

I found this free software, polycad http://polycad.co.uk that seems to be able to do some interesting things - did you ever try it?

General / Re: Inserting Models into InDesign

You could try to export model as .u3d from PS, and then import it to indesign. I have noe experience with indesign, but it works in Adobe acrobat pro.

You should try to do that same test with the beta version 1,0 of PS. They have changed the workflow a little, and you could probably see some different results there. I have used it for a while now, and have had no problems with it.

I'm no expert on this - by no means, so somebody please correct me if im wrong. From what I understand, the more cores - the better the computer can handle multi-tasking. Some servers run virtual desktops for a whole lot of thin clients, this means that all software for a whole bunch of people doing all kinds of stuff, runs on the server - the "thin clients" only show the desktop screen and sends keystrokes and mouse-movement/-clicks etc. to the server where everything is processed. I guess in these cases the multiprocessors with a bunch of cores come in handy. Some software, like Photoscan, can take advantage of all available cores. Although - I think Alexey Pasumansky wrote somwhere here that at some stage in the mesh triangulation (87% into build geometry?) only one core is used exclusively.

The GPU is better suited for the calculation types in most of the steps on the way from pics to textured model, while some stages has to be processed on the CPU. Sure it will run faster on an extremely fast CPU, but overall the stages where the CPU does the work represents a small percentage of the whole workflow in Photoscan. Thats why you should spend your money on some good GPUs, instead of an expensive CPU - if Photoscan is your main reason to invest.

If I bring up the perfomance monitor while working in Photoscan, I can see that all cores are working hard most of the time. Now, if there where more of them I guess they would be working just as hard at the same speed as the others. Most of this workload is shared with the GPU, but the majority of calculations, while processing in Photoscan, seems to fit the GPU-processors better. I understand it as if the GPU is better at smaller, quick math-pieces, while the CPU has to deal with the hard stuff.

Again - somebody, please correct me if I'm wrong. I know I have a lot to learn :)

Added: Heres what was said in that other thread:
Hello Andy,

At 87% of mesh generation phase mesh is being triangulated at this step really doesn't use all the cores. It may take quite a long time depending on the dense point cloud quality (and number of points in the cloud).

You can always decimate the model in PS, and still keep a lot of detail.
