ssd evo 970 paging file
« on: December 07, 2018, 11:52:57 PM »
Hallo  everyone,  running a page file on a very fast ssd , something like evo970 , it is possible reach  performance near a big amount of ram?I have only  32 gb ddr 4  and i have  big problem building  dense cloud in  very high settings ,running out of mem, my motherboard  has only 4 slots ddr so for reach at least 128 gb  would be too expensive, around 1000€,actually   1 tb evo 970  cost around  230€.

Just for a comparison of the sequential read spead:
SSD: 3560 MB/s (my 970 evo NVMe)
RAM: 64575 MB/sec (at 2900 MHz)

So no, you'll never ever want to get into swap space (however fast your SSD), it brings the processing nearly to a halt (the processor cores are just not receiving enough data).

You may also want to check if "very high quality" is actually necessary for your anticipated output?!
Processing time increases exponentially between the various quality settings, and so does the amount of output data (with issues maybe in handling such large data in further steps?).
