Monochromatic surfaces????
« on: November 03, 2013, 09:23:54 AM »
We've been trying to work with a sculpture that has a smooth white surface but can't seem to build a good geometry because the camera/software is unable to recognize points. LED lights and flash have been very unsuccessful with the capture. Tungsten lights have given us the most data points but we need more helpful advice to reveal more surface in the capture. Thanks

Have you thought considered projecting a noise pattern?
Here is a link to one thread that discusses some aspects:

Here are some screen shots from the datasets we've been getting.  I'm part of the same team as the initial person who posted.

These results were from a Tungsten light with a turn table set up.

It there 'any' variation in the look of the surface of the object that can be enhanced? ie. if you really cranked up the apparent contrast from your RAW images (from curve adjustments, pulling down shadows/blacks, etc), can you get any extra perceptible detail out of the images that can give Agisoft a bit more to grab details from? You can always swap out normally developed images before you generate the texture, but an overcranked detail version of the images can help quite a bit to generate better geometry.
