Does Photoscan use GPS coordinates to build a DEM or is it pure computer vision?

Hello,
We are having a fierce discussion on what is the contribution of the GPS coordinates when Photoscan process images to a DEM? Are they required, is the software depended on them when processing the data? Does RTK differential GPS  geotaged images provide a better final DEM solution?
