How to get smaller file size? (Sketchfab 50 MB)
« on: April 06, 2017, 02:03:37 PM »
I have uploaded to Sketchfab once before: https://sketchfab.com/models/4b140bce81ab44838c240202f1271a54 (yes, there is a hole at the top)
Today when I created another 3D runestone with higher quality I couldnĀ“t upload it due to the file size (400MB). Is there a way to export/compress a 3D model to a file size below 50 MB? Or should I try Sputnik instead of Sketchfab?

Hello Kameratrollet,

To reduce the size of the model you can decimate the model (therefore reducing the number of polygons in the model) and build the texture atlas in the lower resolution.

I think that the reasonable number of polygons in the model for the upload is 200,000 - 500,000 and texture atlas not greater than 8192 pixels.

Thanks. Worked like a charm.
