Problem of slowness
« on: September 29, 2017, 10:40:54 AM »
Hello everybody.

Since the last update of Photoscan (1.3.4 build 5067) I have noticed that the processing times have been multiplied by 10!

Even if I handle a large project (1723 images) it is not normal that the creation of the orthomosaic requires 5 days of treatment ... Especially since this does not come from my computer (64 GB of RAM, 6.8 GHz processor).

I tried with version 1.4.0 build 5076 but it does not improve processing times.

Have you encountered the same problem?

Thank you for your help!
Bastien

You will find in the attachment the register file of the creation of orthomosaic.
Maybe this will help to find the problem?
Thanks a lot

Hello Bastien,

I think that the slow processing speed is related to the big number of polygons in the model. Have you got similar problems when generating orthomosaic based on mesh with 100+ millions of polygons for the images of the same resolution?

hello Alexey,

Thanks for your return.
The number of polygons is not too big because I have already processed projects of this size without any problems.

I think we may have identified the problem.
Since the last update (1.3.4 build 5067) the file pagefile.sys increases very strongly until it completely crashes the disk C

Do you know how to force Photoscan not to create this file?
Or the way to empty it?

Thank you, regards,
Bastien

Hello Bastien,

pagefile is created by the system. I think you should disable virtual memory usage in the OS settings.

Hello Alexey,

We have disabled the pagefile file but the processing time is still long.
Can you send me the installation file of older versions of photoscan (1.3.2 build 4205 and 1.3.3 build 4827).

Thanks
Best regards,
Bastien

Are you using batch mode? I noticed dense cloud generation is 4 times or more slower than non batch mode with the same settings. I did multiple tests and the results are consistent.

Hi Cat Aeri,

I have never tried the batch mode but it's worth seeing what it gives.

Thanks for the tip!

Hello,

I've got a SuperMicro computer with 2 Xeon and a GeForce 1080 Ti GPU and i've notices that using photoscan 1.3.4 with CUDA enabled the densification process is slower that the same processing with the same computer but with Photoscan 1.2.6 with OpenCL.

It seems that photoscan does not use all the GPU capabilities. Did you ever had this problem ?

Hello Julien,

Can you provide the processing logs from both version (1.3 with CUDA and 1.2 with OpenCL) related to the processing of the same project with the same parameters?

I agree with Bastien,

things are getting slower from 1.2.6 onwards and, as far as I am concerned, less effective with respect to the image alignment success (and no I do not keep a log of the wasted processing hours of my life).
The incremental alignment is a very good option, indeed, and should be available from day 1 but of course it only applies to new projects...
