Remote cluster processing is much slower than stand alone
« on: April 18, 2018, 08:51:18 AM »
Hi all,
I tried a remote cluster processing. Site 1 is consisted with a server, a client and a node in one computer. Site 2 is a node. Site 3 is a file storage. These sites are connected with VPN and optical fiber, and several kilometers off each other.
In 200 photographs case, it takes 10 hours to get orthomosaic, but it takes only 1.5 hours by site 2 stand alone computer. Photo matching is very time-consuming in the remote cluster processing.

What can I do to process faster than stand alone?

OR

Do I have to get all computers together in the same building to process faster?

Hello Yoshihiro,

Have you checked the network load during the processing operation on the node? Also what's the resolution of the images that you are using?

Usually we recommend to have at lead 1 GBit connection between nodes and storage.

Hello Alexey,

I checked network load between site 2 (node) and site 3 (storage). It was only 7.7MB/S.
Resolution of the images is 4000x3000. Number of  images is 191.

I realized network connection is too poor to do remote cluster processing.
Next time I will try to gather all computers in the same building.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
