Align chunks by Photo
« on: July 21, 2018, 03:54:08 AM »
Hi,

I'm wondering if this idea would work in Align Chunks: An option to align by photo

How it would work: We can pick a photo that exists in each chunk and that is the "anchor" that aligns with the same photo in the other chunks.

Chunk1 has Photos A, B, C, D, E  (all cameras aligned)
Chunk2 has Photos A, F, G, H, I  (all cameras aligned)
Chunk3 has Photos A, J, K, L, M, N (all cameras aligned)
etc

So Align Chunks can be forced to use the camera associated with Photo A to do the Chunk Alignment since it is 100% the same in each chunk.

It's slightly different to align by camera but I think would give a bit more control over it and help with aligning chunks being used for animation.

Surely you would need to have more than one photo in each chunk to do this with any kind of accuracy? I do a very similar thing but have at least 3 cameras the same in each chunk and it works pretty well.

A single photo cannot work as anchor unless you had scaled all chunks in advance... a bit exceptional case... and also a bit poor constraint of the relative alignment of chunks. I would'n trust the method on it in most cases.
