(Also reported in Agisoft PhotoScan 0.9.1 pre-release thread.)
Build Geometry in 1647 Standard Version crashes the AMD 7770 graphics on my system when OpenCL is used. I have not had the problem with previous builds. Align Photos is fine. A second or so after Build Geometry is started the screen goes black and then a message appears saying graphics was shut down and restarted. PhotoScan continues to run but with low CPU usage and no GPU usage. Not obvious any progress is made. The behaviour is repeatable.
When OpenCL is disabled Build Geometry runs okay.
Machine is running Windows 7, Intel i7-3770, 16 GB memory, AMD Radeon HD 7700 graphics with 3 GB memory, AMD driver 9.2.0.0 9/27/2012. I checked for driver updates from AMD and driver is shown as most recent.
I normally run PhotoScan with OpenCL enabled and 6/8 Active Cores.
Correction: Graphics has 2 GB memory, not 3 GB.

Hello David,
Thank you for reporting.
Could you please check that 0.9.0 is working fine under the same system configuration.
-
Hmm can say what PSU you use ? precise model ????

Hello David,
Thank you for reporting.
Could you please check that 0.9.0 is working fine under the same system configuration.
I removed 0.9.1, loaded 0.9.0 and verified that 0.9.0 is working fine under the same configuration.
I removed 0.9.0 and loaded 0.9.1 Build 1647 and the same problem occurs.
I previously updated the graphics driver to 9.12.0.0 12/19/2012. This did not affect the problem.

PSU? I assume you are not asking about the power supply unit.

Yes, have asked, sometimes was problem there( not enought power on lines )..... But as you test it, its something other.....
-
Appears to be resolved in Build 1654. Thanks! :)
-
Turns out it is not resolved. The same problem has reoccured, though not every time.
-
Hello David,
Is it possible to make the problem reproducible every time with the same settings and dataset (for example one of our tutorial datasets) so we could check it on our side?
-
David try completly uninstall AMD drivers, for that exist some special utility. from my point of view its something with drivers. im got some issue with BETA drivers, im could not clear the mess and must completly reinstall windows. aftehr that was OK.... http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/AMD/AMD-Catalyst-Un-install-Utility-1210.shtml
-
David have you tested this solution ??
-
The problem first occurred with Build 1647, and occurred every time I used Build Geometry with Open CL on. Previous to installing Build 1647 the problem had not occurred. The graphics drivers had not been changed for quite a while before installing Build 1647. I subsequently updated the drivers to the latest released (non-Beta) version which did not change anything.
With Build 1654 the problem occurs sometimes. When I tested the tutorial datasets they were okay. A project with 240 photos ran okay several times and then the problem occurred. A project with 11 photos had the problem occur every time.
It will be a few weeks before I'm able to do any comprehensive testing. Currently I'm running with OpenCL turned off.

ok im asking if you cold remove a reinstall drivers. AMD is not a perfect doing all perfectly...... try as have mentioned, then let us know..... AS im see you have not deeper and longer experience with driver related problematic..... please try it..

Today I removed AMD software including the driver, and then loaded the latest released software including driver version 12.104.0.0. I also downloaded and installed the latest Beta build of PhotoScan Standard Edition 0.9.1 build 1667 (64 bit). I'll report if the problem reoccurs.
