Title: Build normals in metashape
Post by: Dieter on April 16, 2020, 03:13:40 PM
Hi,

are there any "hidden" options to build the Point Cloud normals?

I build the normals always in cloudcompare because they are better then in metashape.

In the future i want to build them in Metashape, therefore my question.

Thanks
Dieter

Hello Dieter,

If the external point cloud is imported from the external source and does not contain normals, they will be generated automatically on import.

Yes i know,

but are there any options?

Hello Dieter,

If you would like to have different methods of point cloud normals generation, can you please specify which options you are interested it or at least name popular methods which are commonly used in other applications?

I don't have enough experience for different methods of point cloud normals generation. :-\

I have attached a screenshot from Cloudcompare. With these parameters I calculate the normals.

Especially the option neighbors with different radii can significantly improve the results of the normals in my cases.

Thanks
Dieter

Hello Dieter,

Thank you for sharing, we check if it would be possible to implement different methods for the dense cloud points normals calculation.
