Title: Imported quad models being exported out of Metashape as triangles?
Post by: twistedpancreas on September 29, 2020, 01:46:34 AM
Hey there guys.

My process is:

1) Build model in Metashape and export as .obj
2) Lower polycount with Zremesher in Zbrush
3) Check .obj in Blender for non quad faces
4) Reimport .obj into Metashape and apply texture
5) Export into Blender again to be finally exported as a blend4web html5 model.

Problem is lately when doing step 5) I find  the models are now all made up of triangles even though I checked in step 3)

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Hello twistedpancreas,

Are you observing the same behavior, if the imported model has UV coordinates and the texture in built in Metashape on imported model using Keep UV mapping option?

Thanks for the hasty reply Alexey.

And yes creating UV's worked.

Does that mean I have to do that for each model now?

Our subjects are Anatomy Cadaver models and they're pretty complex, UV mapping will be time consuming.

And how come it was working for me before without UV's but not now?

Thanks.

Hello twistedpancreas,

Quad representation of the mesh will be preserved on export from Metashape only if the mesh remains unchanged (no decimation, no smoothing, no polygon removal and no Metashape-based UV parametrization).

I will check, if we can do anything regarding UV parametrizaion for quad mesh.

Thanks Alexey,

yeah manually adding UV's adds to the process time and I'm trying to be as time efficient as possible.

Thanks.
