Title: HDD vs SSD - data processing time
Post by: pttpx2 on August 03, 2022, 04:45:31 PM
Hello,

I'm using Metashape which is installed on HDD and now I'm planning to buy a new disk. I'm thinking about buying SSD. Of course it's more expensive so please tell me if I installed Metashape on SSD would it shorten time of data processing?

I have once seen Metashape on SSD computer and I've noticed that photos are imported into the program way faster but I'm wondering if it will also impact data processing time.

My computer specification:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with RADEON Vega graphics
graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
RAM: 16 GB

Cheers!

First of all - it is not important where Metashape itself is installed.

It is important where photos and projects files are located. So photos importing was faster thanks to photos located on SSD - Metashape was able to read them one by one much faster than from HDD. And yes, SSD for data storage should lead to faster processing.

In 2022 I can't see using a HDD for anything other than archiving previously used media or data. If your C Drive (OS and all programs) isn't installed on a SSD, either sata or NMVE, then you need to reevaluate your entire rig and do some research too.
