Title: Smooth Mesh with preserve edges option enabled creates self-intersecting faces

Hello,

I am finding that in version 1.8.2 the Smooth Mesh tool creates several hundred self-intersecting faces when the preserve edges option is enabled.
fixTopology() does not rectify the issue and I have to subsequently resort to a different software to remove them.
