Title: Import Orthomosaic *SOLVED*
Post by: dpitman on January 16, 2023, 02:41:13 AM
Is Metashape capable of importing an orthomosaic geo.tif ?  The command is in the file menu, but if I export an ortho (in wgs84) out of MS and try and import that same file, (or any other ortho I've tried), I get an error "Empty Frame Path".

Thanks!

Hello dpitman,

"Empty frame path" message in most cases indicates that you need to save the project in PSX format in order to complete the failed operation (such as DEM/Orthomosaic/Tiled model import or generation).

Thanks for the reply, Alexey.  I'm sorry, I don't know what is meant by PSX format.  I don't see anything in the export dialog or file type relating to PSX.  And Google just says PSX is a file generated by Sony PlayStation.

So, typical geo.tiff files generated by Metashape and the other main stream processors can not be imported into MS?

Thanks!

Hello dpitman,

the PSX format is the actual "new" native Metashape project format, in formerly versions it was PSZ format.

Best regards

Hello Dave,

When you get Empty Frame Path error you need to save the project in "Metashape Project (*.psx)". For newly created (never saved) projects and projects saved in "Metashape Archive (*.psz)" format it is not possible neither to import orthomosaic / DEM or tiled model, nor to build those assets.

But if the project is saved in PSX format (as described above) you would be able to import properly georefernced GeoTIFF file via Import Orthomosaic command.

Great, thanks for the explanation, Alexey!  I was opening a new workspace and trying to import without saving the workspace first.
