Title: Texture - size, format, layered
Post by: olihar on July 05, 2011, 04:46:55 PM

It would be great to be able to work with other then jpg texture files, for example 16bit Tif files or PSB files.

So one can do larger then 30k textures and not limited to 8bit. As long as input images are of course 16bit tif files.

Layered texture file would be very handy as well, where one could go in and manually edit seams that Photoscan might have some trouble with in Photoshop for example.

Hello olihar,

In the current version of PhotoScan the texture is stored internally in PNG format (8 bit per color channel).
The export supports most common images file formats - TIFF and PNG as well.

Unfortunately support for 16 bit color depth is not planned for the near future.

What about layered texture file for manual seam editing, where you got all the images in 1 layer then a flattened layer in the bottom of the file.

Hello olihar,

Unfortunately layered texture is not in our near plans of implementation. But we keep this idea in mind. Thank you for the suggestion.

Just so I keep this a little up more.

Would it be possible to use a texture from X image by using Keep UV.

As the option is grayed out when Keep UV is selected.

Then if that is possible a batch could be created to export each image as texture with only 1 photo and black "mask" for the rest. Then fixed could be done in post processing for bad seams in the texture created with all the images.

The latest version of agisoft (0.8.3 beta - build 1224) no longer allows you to export all texture file formats when you export model (only allows .jpg and .png).  The format i am most interested in is .bmp because this allows you to open the file in Photoshop with the alpha channel and the texture blur feature.

I realise it is still possible to export the texture seperately as a .bmp file but it seems silly that it can no longer be done all at once when export geometry.

Is it possible to add this feature back in?

Thanks

Hello ag999,

Thank you for reporting.
We have checked the texture exporting in PNG and it seems that "blurred" areas with transparency are discarded by PhotoShop, while GIMP successfully opens this information from the same file.

We'll think how to improve PhotoScan functionality in this respect.
