Title: Texture Generation problem
Post by: ejr32123 on January 25, 2018, 10:34:06 PM
Hey,

I had been using an old version of photoscan, v 1.3.3. so I updated to v 1.4.0. I noticed that when I generated a texture, the texture was triangulated and blurry. I couldn't figure out how to fix it, so I moved on to my next model. However, it did the same thing. So I installed 1.3.3 again and the build texture started working again. Any one else had similar problems?

thanks,

evan

Hello evan,

Can you provide the screenshots of the textured view mode for the same project in both versions?

Yep! here they are...

Hello evan,

It looks like a texture parametrization issue. We have observed such problem in a few cases and the fix will be available in 1.4.1.

Currently I can suggest to decimate the mesh to low-poly count (50 000 faces or less) and re-build the texture - it should help for this model.

Hello,
I'm having the same issue. I've upgraded to 1.4.1 also.

Hello Ricky,

If you experience the texturing issues in versions 1.4.1 / 1.4.2, please send the information about the project (report or chunk info screenshot) to support@agisoft.com with the mesh model that you are trying to texture. Additionally please provide the screenshots from View Mesh UVs dialog related to the problematic project.

Hi Alexey,

It seems as though 1.4.2 has fixed the texturing issue that I was experiencing. I'll reply back on here if I run into any more issues.

Thanks!

Just revisiting this issue - it seems to happen only with models that are smaller in scale. The textures of my large area sUAS models turn out fine and they have millions of faces. However, smaller areas with a large amount of photogrammetric overlap seem to cause the problem. For example i have an area the size of 50 m x 40 m with approximately 40 images covering it. When i try to texture the ~250,000 face model, i get the blurry striped texture issue. If I decimate that same mesh to 50,000 faces and re-texture then it turns out fine. So it seems to be related to overlap percentage somehow..?

Hello rmassaro,

Does it happen in PhotoScan version 1.4.2 and later?

Hi Alexey,

Yes - i'm seeing it in 1.4.2.  I have not tried 1.4.3 yet.

Thanks!

Hello Ricky,

Maybe you can send the mesh from the sample project where you are observing the texture parametrization issue to support@agisoft.com? I think that only exported mesh will be sufficient, but you can also send the project in PSZ format with the alignment results and problematic mesh (no need to include depth maps and dense cloud).
