Feature Requests / Re: Align Chunks by Camera 'threshold'

This sounds like a good idea for turntable setup as well. This could reduce the chance of alignment errors  when flipping an object over while doing a turntable scan. Occasionally a spherical scan will result in a single hemisphere alignment. Sometimes a significant number of images will all align in exactly the same location and become useless. Typically that problem can be fixed by removing bad images or by adding more photos to increase coverage. However, I believe a threshold feature could possibly allow photoscan to "double check" images that are not within threshold range.

Good to hear it worked for you

Can you provide a set of images for everyone to run? Your benchmark comparison should be more accurate if everyone runs the same data sets. Maybe two different example sets and specify the settings we should try tweaking. If bandwidth is an issue maybe you could upload the datasets as a torrent file and we can do P2P transfers. Just a thought.

Extension tubes will ruin your cameras EXIF data, although you may be able to use the lens calibration tool to correct for this. But I haven't tried that tool myself.

Bug Reports / Re: Issues importing mask from PNG transparancy
« on: July 12, 2013, 08:45:30 PM »
I think the bigger issue is that if you are a windows 8 user, then you will have no idea the mask is wrong because windows 8 autorotates the preview images differently that other versions of windows. The images all appeared in the same orientation on my windows 8 computer, but on the windows 7 computer you can tell that the jpegs were different orientation than the png masks. This appears to be a windows 8 only problem. People who use windows 8 will "think" their mask images are orientated correctly but they are not.

This seems like an issue that could be corrected by having photoscan compare aspect ratios, if it fails then and then try to rotate the image automatically, if that fails, rotate the opposite direction. Then everything is done automatically so there is no "windows viewing problem"

Thanks

Bug Reports / Issues importing mask from PNG transparancy
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:44:38 PM »
I have successfully made a few models by importing masks from PNG files with transparencies, however  I have encountered a problem. I have a project where some of the masks import and some of them do not. Coincidentally, the masks that import correctly are landscape, and the ones that do not are portrait. all the PNG files were created the same way using photoshop. The portrait images do not create a mask when trying to import the PNG as a mask, however the photoscan masking tools do still work. I can send sample files if needed.

Turntable setups work fine, but masking the photos is required. There is lots of info on the forums on how this works.

I have never heard of anyone using "focus stacking" on photoscan before. This may introduce errors. Generally any editing done to the photos is avoided before importing into photoscan. Im interested to know if anyone has been successful with "focus stacking".

Just move the clamp and take more photos where the clamp was. Photoscan will fill in the missing info as long as the clamp is masked out.

Your clamping setup is sufficient. I have done similar objects like this all in one chunk. Zoom-in more and take a lot more photos. If you do it right there will be no cleanup work required. No merging chunks required.

I agree, but simpler work arounds require less time to program, I think it depends how much of a priority this is to the Agisoft team.

A simpler way to solve this might be to add a feature to import / export chunks from other project files. Then users can run 2 projects with 2 instances of Photoscan open and then merge them together into one project file later.

You can work on a second instance of photoscan, but I agree with James, it would be nice to do some sort of background multitasking while a model is processing. Even being able to scroll through the console dialog while processing would be nice.

Feature Requests / Multiple Masks Per Photo
« on: June 14, 2013, 01:00:59 AM »
When using a turntable setup I have found some objects need to be clamped or turned multiple different ways so you can see the whole object. I have sometimes found it useful to use first do a "rough" mask out clamps and tables during the alignment, and then after alignment I will refine the mask out everything I do not want later in the geometry or the texture.

I think it would be helpful to have an option to hide/unhide masks or to duplicate a mask. Then you could select which mask was to be used for processing in that chunk. I imagine you could treat each mask as an image as place it as a sub-image within each "camera". I think this would fit well within the Workspace hierarchy. Then you could just right click on which mask you wanted visible. This would also help for just experimenting with different ways to mask your object without just resetting the whole mask.

It may be cumbersome switching which mask you want but maybe someone else has some other ideas on how to make this better.
