General / Wireless SD cards
« on: August 11, 2015, 02:15:10 PM »
Hi All,

Has anyone here had any joy downloading images from a multiple camera rig using wireless SD cards rather than USB cables? Just wondering how it copes with 20 RAWs downloading at the same time if that's even possible. ( 20 camera RIG).

Many thanks.

Face and Body Scanning / Re: Max cameras per computer over USB
« on: January 16, 2014, 07:28:33 PM »
We have 86 cameras plugged into one PC. Powered repeater USB cables and fairly cheap 10 port USB hubs...You have to keep an eye on it but is pretty stable 90% of the time, sometimes have to unplug a camera and plug it back in again if ones dropped.. Better solution is small format PCs to replace the HUBs all networked back to the main PC. Something for the future.

Our rig with 2 AMD 7970's is about 20% to 30% quicker (at GPU stage) than our identical rig with a Titan. Not very scientific, but cheaper  8)

All I mean by the automated process is the task of getting the high res. scan data ready to 3D print / realtime app.  ready. I don't believe this would be any way to the detriment of the guys on this forum. I just mean it would make the process cost more realistic opening up new markets etc. . I currently have a team of 10 artists all retopologising/zbrushing etc. and it's very expensive for a repetitive task that I believe could eventually be refined. Even if you could stand in a studio, fire the cameras, and a perfect model is exported without any human intervention at all, I don't believe that would affect the industry in any way as it's so expensive and such a specialised task to set up a perfect working rig in its current form, that it's not a mainstream solution anyhow in my opinion. It's that part of the process people are paying for, years of experience, R&D and refinement. If the models we're getting were more like just taking a 3D studio photo it would open up loads of possibilities for the industry. I've not seen an upcoming solution that beats Agisoft either. As you guys say, companies that are using Kinects, and other 3D scanners are okay while 3D printing is in its infancy and a gimmic, but once we have the next generation of printers, and emerging VR etc. there will be a market for Professional high res. 3D content studios I'm sure. The low res. fluffy textured scans where someone has to stand still for a couple of minutes just won't cut it. Well, that what I think anyhow  8)

Good news is it seems the whole industry, Zbrush, Mudbox etc. are all trying to solve this problem.

I still wish this step could be pretty much automated. We've been trying for a while to nail it. Once up to pretty much noise free scans, prepping them for use is something I'm really trying to turn into a button press.

Face and Body Scanning / Calibrating Lenses for scan perfection
« on: November 27, 2013, 06:52:29 PM »
Hello!

I'm trying to get the very best results possible from our 86 camera setup. It's a fixed studio and the lenses are always set the same. Cameras are D600's with the kit EFS18-55mm lens that came with them.

So I've got two questions really.

Before I dismantle the studio and use Agisoft Lens to calibrate all of the cameras individually, should this get better results from Scans or is photoscans inbuilt calibration just as good anyhow? ie. does it even need doing?

and...

Do the lenses focal length have to be fixed in stone for it to work? ie. gaffa taped to a position, or are they adjustable if I take calibration for 4 or 5 different focal lengths per camera? I'm not entirely sure how flexible it is once I've calibrated a lens.

Many many thanks in advance as always!!

Feature Requests / Support for Raws?
« on: November 26, 2013, 02:21:17 PM »
Hello!

I was wondering if there is any way there could be support for RAWs in photoscan? Instead of converting them to tiffs?

Big Thanks

Feature Requests / Re: Split groups by default?
« on: November 14, 2013, 02:36:36 PM »
Hi Alexey,

Yes, it would be really handy. Correct me if I'm wrong but we appear to get slightly better results if we split all groups. We have an 86 camera rig and when it groups say 15 of the 35mm cameras together it almost seems that it treats it as though that is the same 35mm camera used 15 times? Does that make sense? and I'm assuming as they're set individually that one will be 35mm, one may be 35.1mm, one 34.9 etc. etc. even though the exif only says 35mm so I just assume that this is why we appear to get slightly better results by splitting all groups?

I can confirm that two AMD 7970's are about 20% to %30 quicker than one titan on our setup and about 300 pounds cheaper.

General / One Titan or 2xAMD 7970's ?
« on: November 05, 2013, 07:26:49 PM »
Hi All.

I currently have a Titan setup and building a new PC to try and double output. We've gone for 2 x AMD 7970s instead this time. I get the impression this may be slightly faster with open-CL ..... What do you think before I order them?

Any chance of having an option to always split groups in camera calibration. We have an 86 camera rig and find results are better if we split any groups, but have to do this step every time.

Or if there's already a way, sorry!!   :)

General / Titan Card.
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:06:09 PM »
Hi All,

I've built an i7 with Titan as the graphics power for mesh generation.

Point Cloud is the same speed as before which is expected as I know it doesn't use GPU.

Mesh generation is much faster than my old nVidea 560, but as far as I can tell in TechPowerUp GPU it's only using 1% of GPU and a few hundred Mb of VRAM most of the time....

Does this sound correct? When is the true grunt of the titan used? Creating depth maps etc.?

Cheers!  8)

General / force to not group cameras?
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:33:48 PM »
Hi all.
I have a small multi camera rig and not quite getting the perfect results I was hoping for.  I'm thinking that because the software is grouping cameras with the same settings as though its one camera used multiple times that it's causing issues.  Can I force  photoscan to treat every camera as an individual?

Hi Alexey, thanks for getting back so quickly.

I've just tried the Fix Topology which has the same issue, and I'm now going through every export option to try and get one that works. I can also email you some screenshots if that would help.

Many thanks!
