I am having a similar issue. For instance, for one photo set, Photoscan reproduces the front of the object perfectly, but completely omits the back of the object. When I view the matches, the photos of the backside detect hundreds of "invalid" matches but zero "valid" matches. RalfH/lunar, did you ever reach a resolution for this problem?

This is a real problem for me as well. Even worse, I am dealing with photo sets of 15-20 cameras. Photoscan only wants to use 4-5 to create my meshes. The surfaces which Photoscan DOES recreate are very useful. If I could only get the program to compute the data from the missing cameras, I would have what I need. Anyone find a work around for this problem?

Hi gEEvEe, one more set of questions for you.

Could the Exif metadata somehow be entered manually? The reference material seems vague about this (seems like you can enter in some info, but maybe not all of it?)

Do you think that it might be helpful for me to somehow edit the photos before feeding them to Photoscan? For instance, a boost in contrast might help it detect texture variation, while a sharpening of the blurry bits might help with the focus issues. What do you think?

GeeVee,

I'm starting to see how my photographs aren't the best for creating a high-res model. However, if I could even generate a rough a form of my statues whose meshes/textures could be refiend in Zbrush, that would be extremely helpful. Do you have any tips? I still have hope that these photos can provide SOME use. I've seen plenty of expos on youtube showing models which have been generated from similarly "untextured" white marble statues.

Wishgranter,

Thanks for your offer! That is very generous. Of course, I have no delusions about this software being a wonder maker. I've read all of the reference material and watched several tutorial videos, but so far this forum has proved to be most informative.

Unfortunately, when I captured these photos, I had no idea about the Photoscan software. So, granted, in that respect I was rather ill prepared for the types of photos I would need.

Anyhow, I will email you soon. I'm not sure if I can attain RAWs of these photos, since they were taken over a year ago. Thank you so much for your response.

Also, I am still trying to figure out why as of now, Photoscan will generate NO point data at all for new projects that I have begun.

Hmm, interesting. I'm not quite convinced yet. I've seen other models online generated with photos of equal or even less quality in terms of light and focus. I'm not sure I see what the massive problem with these photos would be, even if the light is somewhat unbalanced.

I suspect the problem has something to do with my workflow within the software. For instance, after aligning the photos and viewing the model tab, Photoscan seems to only be displaying data from two or three of the photos (based on the square, blue indicators). Hopefully someone else has some insight. Anyhow, thank you for the responses, Meshmaster!

Thanks, Meshmaster. Unfortunately, these objects were photographed with special permission. I have no hope of recapturing these objects, so the photo set I have is what I must work with. Do you really think I have no hope of creating a mesh with these photos?

I'm sure it is a case of user error! I'm just trying to isolate where I am erring, since as far as I can tell I am following the tutorial/reference document to a T.

Here are several of the photos from one set.

Thanks for your willingness to help, Mesh.

Hello all,

I am wary to come to this forum for answers on Photoscan's most basic features, but I am at my wit's end with this software. I am attempting to use the standard edition to generate models of ancient statuary. For each statue, I have several photos (15 - 20) taken from different angles.

Here are the problems I am facing:

A) After masking out the background of my photos and aligning the cameras, Photoscan does not present me with a model which resembles the statue in any way. Generally, the model consists of about 70 points (despite my having double checked that the max points were sufficient in the preferences) and only seems to be using data from two or three of the photos within my set.

B) After having problems with the statue photos, I photographed a very simple object from six angles to see if I could at least generate a trial model. Now, Photoscan simply does not generate points whatsoever after aligning the photos. Nor does it recognize that the photos have any points when I select the "view points" option.

Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated. I am a bit perplexed as to why I am having these issues. I've read the reference document, watched the tutorials, and have a fair amount of experience with 3D modeling and visualization. Photoscan, however, seems to be a real obstacle. Thank you!
