A total station would be super helpful, I agree, but unfortunately, I have neither the storage, nor time to devote to learning it fully (I only have a basic knowledge of it), whereas I am much better equipped for GPS data and GIS analysis. Because I will primarily be dealing with historic buildings and not necessarily archaeological sites, I am not as worried about the lack of a total station.

The Emlid open source hardware looks particularly interesting! I appreciate all the recommendations so far.

Hi Dave,

Generally, I am dealing with historic buildings and archaeological sites. Some are in complete condition, some are decayed severely.

I am looking for accuracy that one can obtain accurate measurements of the sites for planning. Obviously, I'd like for it to be within centimeters of accuracy but I know that's a huge investment that I do not know if I can afford at this point.

Hi, I am looking to invest in a GPS system for ground-based photogrammetry to incorporate into my Agisoft workflow and I would like to get some recommendations.

I know about the Trimble GeoExplorer, of course, and it's a heavy investment at the moment for me, but I would be very happy to get some recommendations in case there are others.

Thanks!

U3D does work with Acrobat but I don't think it does in InDesign. Part of my problem is I do not have Acrobat so I cannot do it anyway through that medium.

Does anyone know of a way to insert models I have produced into InDesign CS6 for a presentation? Thank you!

Hi,

I have read some of the previous threads that have all suggested Rhino3D as well as CAD-based solutions.

I want to know if anyone has more suggestions or perhaps steps for us to optimize the models in order to prevent the lag caused by a huge amount of information from the triangles...thank you!

Best,

Michael

This is awesome! I did have a question for you. There is a blurb of someone editing the mesh using a stylus in order to fix some of the damages. What program were you all utilizing? Thanks!!

Is the pre-release stable on Mac OSX 10.9? I am thinking of upgrading, especially since it has the multiple screen capability.

Hello Michael,

Could you please check if the crashes still occurs with the latest build installed (1748)?

Please note that camera correction option works only if there are camera coordinates input in the Ground Control pane. Please describe the problem with the coordintate system - do you have any camera coordinates? If not than you need to use Rotate Object tool.

Hi Alexey,

Sorry for the late reply. I will check and let you know.

As far as coordinates, we only have coordinates for the markers initially, not the cameras.

Best,

Michael

Just wanted to let you know of a possible bug in the latest Beta build. When I selected camera correction in the Ground Control settings, my model would align photos just fine, sometimes at 4 hours in length. Just before completion, Photoscan crashed and I had to start over. When I removed camera correction from ground control, it went back to working just fine; however, the models I am building are still being built upside down and I believe utilizing the camera correction would solve this instead of the extra step of manually doing it myself.

I can test it again and try to record the logs, if you would like.

We have found that we are getting the best results when utilizing a wide angle lens DSLR setup (Canon). We are working in cultural heritage documentation so we are dealing with larger scale sites. It all depends on what you are trying to do. I've had success with a stock 18-55 Canon lens that came with my SL1 and I've had success with my Powershot G10.

No need for the 64 GBs of RAM at this point, but I would like to have the ability to upgrade to it when I have the finances. I might be able to push the cost up to closer to $2500 or perhaps even a little more. It all depends. In any case, I am doing fine with my Macbook Pro (9,1) with 8 GBs of RAM for now. I want to have a work computer, however, that will run Windows so I can process the models for my work in something like Rhino and or Sketchup.

General / Computer/Laptop suggestions

Hi,

I am looking to invest in a work computer or laptop for myself that would ideally be primarily utilized for Agisoft. I am looking for some suggestions or suggested builds that will not break the bank but also would be fully capable of adding pieces at a later date or upgrading. Right now, I am shooting for something between $1500 and $2000 more or less. I know it isn't a lot but I am very much realizing that for me to pursue my professional and intellectual research goals, having a personal work computer would be an ideal situation for me.

Anyway, I look forward to your suggestions. I work in the field of cultural heritage conservation, documentation, and preservation in Israel. I am also an archaeologist by trade.

Thanks!

Michael
