Hello Ramps,

I was not referring to fixed wing, but a quad multirotor with previous posts and taking pictures on the go so we can cover a decent area with one battery.  If you need to cover smaller areas or have the time to change batteries then it doesn't matter how fast you fly or if you stop every time you need to take a photo ( we did so when we started with drone photogrammetry  5 years ago ) . But for larger areas or areas like open quarries when you need to take account of light and shadows changing fast, you need to do the job as fast as you can.

As I wrote, every hardware or software has it's limits and if you found the one that offers what you need it is great. Will try the GSPro when I get my hands on a DJI  ;)

Ok, I see the reason now  :) If you need ISO100 and camera adds too much noise at higher ISO values, then you are a bit limited.

It's not fast if you are using a good camera and a good lens.  ;) We always aim for the accuracy we need for speciffic job ( a bit better than we need ) and use most appropriate lens for that. But as you said, each equipment has it's operational range.

Will sure try the app you suggested if I get a DJI on my hands.  ;)

Hello, no don't use them that's why I asked why you would not just change the shutter speed to avoid blur regardless of flight speed.

We normally fly from 6  to 10 m/s with multirotors and take pictures ( based on distance flown ) on the go without any blur using appropriate shutter times.

Yoann : Don't use DJI, so I have a question : You can not manually set the camera shutter time on DJI drones??

Hello all,

it depends which drones you are using and what you want the software to do, so for me Mission Planner is good option as we are using Mikrokopter and Pixhawk based drones. For Mikrokopter we use our waypoint conversion tool to convert waypoint list from Mission Planner. Don't use DJI, but is well covered  here :)

You could also check out UgCS which offers support for most drones and devices.

Best regards,

Alex

Thanks! That appearrs to be a very interesting option, particularly considering its A LOT cheaper compared to FOV's GeoSnap Express module. You have indeed confirmed it should work with Sony camera's, such as the A7R series?

As for the IMU is concerned, this is a very welcome addition! Unfortunately I cannot find any information on pricing of the module including an IMU. Any clue on that?

Hello,

we added a short video of our logger in action and transfer of information to EXIF. It's a bit wobbly, but shows the feature in question.

If you would be using Pixhawk controller, you can achieve the same thing with an hotshoe adapter and a setting or two.  :)

Best regards,

Alex

Hello all,

nice reading, but should someone really use Ronin gimbal for photogrammetry and had the need for accessing camera's hotshoe contact for logging camera's triggering event ( with external logger apparently  :) ), we have a hotshoe adapter that fits the gimbal at mobilexcopter.com.

BobvdMeij : One note about battery for A7R ( or other cameras where battery life is an issue ) - you can use a power adapter ( battery coupler ) instead of battery and use external ( main ) battery to power the camera.

I would also suggest usage of direct triggering, not IR trigger option for photogrammetry usage. especially if you are flying fast.

Hello,

yes, we can confirm that it works with A7R series and other newer Sony cameras like A6xxx, A5xxx range.

IMU module can be added with check mark on the right pane (  there is also a price for IMU add-on ).

We will add a video of logger in action, hopefully record it this weekend.

Best regards,

Alex

Hello all,

we have a simmilar device  GPS Logger for logging trigger position based on different events. With hotshoe adapter that works with Sony and other cameras you can log positions based on camera trigger positions to microSD card and then use the logs as desired. With optional imu module you can also store direction in log files if needed. Basicaly works the same as solution mentioned at top.

Best regards,

Alex

Hello all,

if you are using Pixhawk flight controller you can connect a hotshoe adapter for logging positions where camera actually triggered regardless how you trigger it. Works with other cameras with hotshoe as well.

Best regards,

Alex

Hello all,

you can use our Simple multi shutter device for Pixhawk and Sony compatible shutter cable to trigger Sony cameras like A5000, A5100, A6000, A7, A7r.  :)

You can use the cable with other relay type shutter devices.

Alex

Hello Darko,

yes, there are many other solutions that have no limits, but MK has one. It is like that. Higher range license is licensed to user/company and with that info drone can be tracked in case of damage or simmilar.

I would preffer no limits on them also, but there are and I use their hardware nevertheless. I use other flight controllers also if I need more range.

I thought you had trown the MK into garbage because you crashed it  in your office ;)

Best regards,

Alex

Hello Martin,

if you have an ARF Okto, then 500 m commercial license is included, yes. The radius limitation is active when using programmed flights, if manually flown it is ignored and you must follow your local regulations.  :)

Yes, mission planning is a bit of a pain with MK for photogrammetry, but is getting better with latest version. I use our converter program that enables me to use Mission Planner for flight planning and converting the waypoints to MK format which can be easily imported into MK tool.  :D

Best regards,

Alex

The real trouble with the MK is the programable range of 250m.

Hello Darko,

the 250 m radious limit is the MK's personal usage license limitation. If you use MK for commercial business there are extended licenses available ( 500m or more, depending on the need and price of course  ;) ).

Best regards,

Alex

Yes, I see your problem now. But the problem can be avoided with a different multiport cable and a small shift of the camera to the right as the lens is on the left side of the camera and you should keep your sistem in balance.

Many users have different gimbals, not the MK's SLR2, or even fixed camera setup on the planes, so the triggering solution is good, especailly because you can control the manner of triggering via remote ( in case of MK usage - off, by distance or manual ).

I attached a picture of a custom multiport connector housing.

Best regards,

Alex
