General / How to cut a part of pedestal of an 3d model in Blender?
« on: May 10, 2015, 12:47:07 PM »
Hello

I have a 3D model done in photoscan, a bust in a pedestal, I need to retouch it cutting part of its pedestal. I thought it's possible in Blender, but as I'm new with Blender, after some hours still I'm not able to do it. What I need is to snap four vertices of pedestal to 3D pane, then adding a plane mesh (Add-> Mesh-> Plane) cutting part of pedestal, or maybe it's possible doing in another way.
I'll be very thankfull if somebdoy can help me with that.

Here I attach a shotscreen of my bust.

When we export the model as PDF, is it possible to change the background color from white (in pdf) to Black???
As my busts and sculptures normally are in white, with black bakcground, they?ll have more contrast.

Thnak you

Hello Alexey!

I?ve read that discussion and I understand it. My problem is how to do it! I have 3 differnet cameras with 3 photos without the object in scene. I load photos of every position in a different chunk, along with the photo of background. But in the menu of import mask for active chunk, it ask you for a .png file not a .jpg. So before doing that I have to export the mask with "export for active chunk" just by clicking on the background photos, without doing nothing, is it correct or not? In any case, id does not work, I?m taking wrong one stpe and I dont know which one it is!

Hello mr_cg!

Could you please explain me step by step, how you do mask by background in photoscan?
Imagin I have just one camera with 24 photos with a static background and one more photo from background without the obj.

Thank you so much!

Thank you Admir!

Do you think it?s better to mask in PhotoShop or in PhotoScan, with the mask from background option?

Actully I did it in photoscan and I did not get the result I expected. I just works masking from background in current image, not in current chunk!

I hvae at least 3 different camera positions, so I have to have 3 photos of background without image.
1- I load them along with others photos in the chunk
2- Clicking on one of them, I choose Export mask for Active Chunk , file type: single channel mask image, and give it a name and save it. I go through these steps for the rest two photos of background, but in different chunks.
3- Then I Import the mask by option from background and choosing its folder.
4- Then I?ll move all photos in one chunk.
5- For photos of details, I mask them manually.

Am I doing wrong? Coz for some chunk the mask does not work!

Ah, just another more question and I?ll be shut up for a while  8)

4) In more cases, the Sculture does not move, and I am going to turn around 360? and taking photos. In this case, as the background is not static, logically I cant take a photo of background without object for creating maks (from background). for masking, Do i have go through all photos, one by one and mask them???!!

Kisses!

another question, do you know how the option "mask by a model" works? What model exactly it refers and in which cases is more handy ?

thanks a lot  :D

Alexey and Marcel, Thank you so much for your reply! They really helpd me and solved one of my big problems in navigating  :D

Alexey, at the moment I use PhotoScan more to scanning Plaster Sculptures and Busts in differente sizes that in 99% of cases are totally white! In realtion with that, I have some doubts:

1) For busts and sculpture more smaller, I use turnetable. As I normally need to shoot the object from different positions (bottom, front, up) and tripod does not reach so high or cant be fiexd so low, I carry the camera in my hand, not on a tripod. Does it affect so much in the final result or it?s ok with the software?

2) In the same case (above exp. ), for some parts of sculptures which are more elaborated and have more details or are well hidden, I take 2,3 more continued photos (single photos) with more zoom, is it Ok, or on the contrary, it woul have bad effect on the result model? Another question in relation with that, although the background was static, but at this case as now I?m moving to capture the details of sculpture, the background will change. If I wanna use the option "mask from a background " with my photo without the presence of object, who the program deals with it?

Totally, what do you recommand me in this case?

3)  I remember in one of my experience, although I have good quality photos (without mask), the result wasnot so accurate and precise. So in the next try, I mask just some of the photos, not all of them (masking also were a little sloppy!), the result in this time was with more details and more precise, but also have been created some mass and bulk around the photo where there were anything. Was it for if I mask a photo, I have go through all of them, or was it for another reason?

I have more questions, but better leave them for another occasion and let you breath a little  :P  In advance, thank you so much Alexey or whoever are going to help me !

Hello Every One

I?m new with photoScan standard edition and I have somre problems to deal with. Wondering if you could help me with them, thanks.

1) The result 3d Image does not appear in the middle of the program, over the ballon, but more to the left (or right), so movieng it in 360 wont be easy, nor zoomin it, coz it get out of the sight and screen, so I have to zoom out it and make it small to be able to see it!!! Does it have anything to to do with the angel of taking photos?

2) Is there any number to be concider as the efficent number of photos for making a 3dImage?
