Nope. You need some sort of measurement referencing. Else it's just a pretty picture.

And if the pictures have GPS info? does that make any difference?

Hi guys,

I made a 3D model of my garden with a UAV and camera. The pictures have no GPS info, I don't have any GCP's and no scalebar. Is it still possible to measuring anything? I would like to export it to QGIS and measure distances... possible ?

General / Relative XY accuracy of terrain with UAV without GCP's

Hi,

I know this forum already has A LOT of information on it, and I searched a lot  but still couldnt find the right answer.

I want to usa Photoscan in combination with a UAV to meassure terrains (sizes). The most important for me is the relative XY accuracy (the dimensions and sizes of the terrains). The absolute accuracy (compared with the real coordinates) is not THAT important, hope to use a RTK gps as Piksi or something on top of the UAV.

What relative accuracy's can I expect without using any GCP? I know it depends on a lot more, but imagine a good camera and good flight planning, would it be possible to achieve a 15 cm XY accuracy? Or would it be damn hard?

Hi,

I read that Photoscan can work with multispectral images. I can imagine that this is easy if you have a multispectral camera, but is it also possible to use a DSLR for the pointcloud and a second (for example, heat)camera for the textures? Let's say the 2 camera's are mounted on top of each other or something..

General / Matterport (interior scanning)

Hi,
I was searching for some information about interior scanning. The most well-known product on the market seems to be the Matterport. I first tought it was a cheap laserscanner but I think it only uses camera's, and no laser distances (?).
Shouldn't it be possible to achieve the same with photoscan? The matterport has 2 (or maybe more?) camera's with a fixes distance.

If you would build a DIY setup with 2 DSLR camera's next to each other, put them in the middle of a room on a tripod and let it rotate. Would photoscan be able to make a nice mesh? Beceause you have 2 camera's you have every point seen from 2 positions so ..

The same with the microsoft kinect scanners. They work quite well for room scanning.. should photoscan be able to do this with the right setup??

General / Using photoscan for 3D buildings : looking for a good camera

Hi all,

I plan to use photoscan for making 3D models of buildings and (relatively small) land area's.
I'm going to shoot from the hand, UAV and with camera poles. I was looking for a good camera but I just don't know where to begin.. there are so many DSLR's and I'm not really into it.
I prefer a Canon for the firmware hacks. I prefer quality above price but I don't need overkill.

What's a good camera and a good lens (or multiple lenses) ?

General / Edit texture

Hello,

I made a 3D mesh of a building using Photoscan, and I textured it. I think it looks great, but there are always some errors in the texture (for example the windows when there is a lot of reflection).

I was thinking to edit the texture using Photoshop (I could cut out the window in the texture created by Photoscan and replace it with a window from a single photo), if you know what i mean.

What's the best way to do this ? completely UV unwrap the mesh (is it even possible to unwrap giant buildings ?), or is there a better way?
