General / How to obtain a smooth surface?
« on: February 14, 2019, 06:15:59 AM »
Hey there just wondering if there is a way to smooth out an object before the texture is made, because the geometry comes out very rough.

General / Merging chunks question for a cadaver's leg...
« on: November 15, 2018, 09:23:21 AM »
Hey there I've been watching these tutorials https://youtu.be/pYE0KOa5oGk?t=1018 merging two chunks with markers and I tried it with my model but it's not working.

Do the 2 chunks need to be in the exact same position, ie I'm doing a cadaver's leg where the leg was shot firstly in this position...

(ie calf facing downwards)

and then in this position...

(ie calf facing upwards)

Unfortunately when moved they change slightly (because, well it's a leg), so when I go to merge the 2 chunks of it will Agisoft just merge them on top of each other or do I have to cut away parts of the model I dont want with a little bit of overlap, like so (where red is the overlap)...

or is this just not going to work (ie it would be better if the leg was suspended from the roof to get as many shots as possible)

Unfortunately I can't show my model for privacy reasons because it's a cadaver (I work for a university).

Looks like the Accuracy set at Low was the culprit (serves me right for cutting corners before trying High :P)

General / Reset current alignment doesn't work
« on: May 16, 2018, 03:04:16 AM »
Hey there I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but after I had completed a model up to the texture stage I decided I wanted to align the photos again (since I used the Medium setting and now wanted to try High).

Here's my textured model...

and it's settings...

But when I align the photos with Reset current alignment on...

it ends up with a model with 0 tie points...

Am i missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Feel free to slap me.

 ;)

Yes I had the bounding box in the wrong position.

Thanks for that Alexey.

General / 75% of subject disappears when Building Dense Cloud
« on: October 25, 2016, 04:17:24 AM »
Hey there,

I've never had this before but after Aligning the Photos and removing unwanted points, I go to Build the Dense Cloud and when it finishes and I preview it with the Dense Cloud button and 75% of the subject disappears!!!

See here for a video screen grab...

What am I doing wrong? I've never had this before!

Thanks in advance.

Hehe thanks guys, the plush toy was just a test piece, we'll eventually be looking to do food shots for a client, ie see the banana below that was shot by walking around the banana (mind you that was only with 30 photos, so it was a rough test). The client wants about 400 food shots done, which we're now thinking a QTVR approach might be better for time's sake.

But for the future, masking and filling the frame should fix the software's camera positioning issues?

General / Turntable issues.
« on: March 21, 2016, 07:23:37 AM »
Hi there we're having weird results using a turn table and I'm sure we're missing a simple step and thought you guys might be able to help us.

We seem to get good results when photographing a subject when walking around it, but when it comes to a turntable subject all the cameras seem to align from one direction (we're using a Canon 6D) rather than in a circular direction, see below (we tried on a turn table and also turning the subject on a tripod with a red screen to use as a mask to see if the mask would help).

We've turned GPS off on the camera, and have markers rotating with the subject, but can't think why else this would be happening.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

We tried it in Memento too (see attached) and it was giving us an ok result, so just wondering why it wasnt working here.

Yeah im thinking we dont have enough photos, but Im pretty sure I was told you wouldnt need many to get a good result.

Anyhow I tried you're suggestion of selecting images that didnt have NA and then I 'reset camera alignment' on those and then 'align selected cameras' with images that had NA. This does give me different camera directions but because i reset the others I have lost those previous directions or is there a way to save different subsets and then use all of those to make a model?

Hopefully that makes sense.

Actually looking at it again it seems only 3 images have been used the rest are NA, is there a reason for that (see attached)?

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy with work, but here's another result with a fairly thick and textured bench chair and the camera view is still mainly from one direction.

No not yet, because we didn't want to try that yet.

All we wanted to do was to get a 3d form regardless of the background being in there or not.

We've done the same with taking photos of a chair outside and it did the same thing and it even had some photos with NA next to their name.

Hi there,

we've tried our 2nd attempt using Photoscan and we're wondering if it's not working for us because we're shooting objects rotating on the spot rather than us physically moving around the object.

We tried this boot...

but as you can see the blue camera orientations are all projecting from the same direction, whereas shouldn't they be projecting from all around the 3d space, like this video with his turntable example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_F-b2hxP_o

Are we missing a setting or is the camera itself mucking it up?  It's a Canon EOS 400D.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks guys for the quick replies.

Yeah I tried a unmasked and masked version dtmcnamara and it did the same thing.

Ah ok James I'll try that next time having just a background shot, is there a specific setting to choose that background as a mask somewhere?

Ok Alexey Pasumansky I'll do a re-shoot with those suggestions.

Please hold...... :)
