General / No Such File or Directory For Photos
« on: October 15, 2018, 08:57:33 PM »
Hey all,

I've recently cleaned up our desktop a bit (moved around some models, put them into new folders) and now Photoscan cannot find the files/directories for the pictures. It let's me open the models, but it does not allow me to make any changes to do any work with scale bars. It keeps giving me an error message, which I have attached below. Does anyone know how to fix broken links for images? FYI, I am using a mac, in case that changes the troubleshooting process.

Thanks so much!

General / Read Only Mode Won't Let Me Save Changes
« on: September 18, 2018, 08:32:13 PM »
Hey all,
I was working on a model on a different computer a few days back and I just opened it on our lab computer to finish building it. I do this all the time with no problem. But now it won't let me save any changes I make because it is in read only mode and "I don't have permission." But I did make it, so I'm confused how I lost permission.

Any advice here?

Thanks!

Making the tie point limit 10,000 did align all of the photos quickly and effectively, thank you. I will see how the rest of the model builds and I will keep in touch!

Hey, sorry about the delay!

Yes, let me attach some pictures for you.

As you can see, many pictures are just not aligning, leaving the sparse cloud a little too sparse. You can see all the missing camera angles as well.

We are experiencing this problem with both artifacts (clay, ceramic, lithic, etc.) and bones. You can see here that this is a mandible. Let me know if this helps, and again, I apologize for the delay. Life get's crazy!

General / Photos Not Aligning
« on: August 15, 2018, 12:14:21 AM »
Hey everyone,

I recently photographed various artifacts and am currently trying to make models out of them. For just about every artifact, about half the photographs will not align. I don't really know what to do at this point. I try both the 1 chunk and 2 chunk method, and I have the same problem with both. For aligning photos, here are the settings I've been using:

GENERAL
accuracy: highest
generic preselection: no
reference preselection: no

ADVANCED
keypoint limit: 40,000
tiepoint limit: 1,000
constrain features by mask: yes
adaptive camera model fitting: no

Please let me know if anyone knows why it would not be aligning multiple photos!

Thanks so much,

Pete

okay, I did all that, but the texture keeps failing to build. Are there any other settings I should be changing?

Okay, thank you. I drew a polygon around the blurry region and filtered by shape. The filter still left me with 50 or so pictures to look through, however. Let's say I was going to mask the blurry region in the source photo and rebuild the texture. How would I go about doing that?

Hey everybody, this is Peter.

I'm currently working on building a model of a human mandible. Everything goes smoothly until the very last step. I build the mesh and the texture and the model looks great...except for one spot. In a particular region, the texture is blurry. Everything around it looks fine, but there is a small enclosed section on the chin that is blurred out and has no detail.

I went through all the pictures I used to make the model and removed blurry pictures hoping that would help the problem. Which it did, the blurry spot is smaller now, but it is still there nevertheless. I'm currently rebuilding the dense cloud on high instead of medium. We will see if that helps at all.

I usually wouldn't be such a perfectionist, but this bone is from a royal tomb and I really want it to look great for future presentations and research. I can attach a picture if that helps!

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it! Thanks so much.

General / Re: Photoscan Not Aligning All Photos

I forgot to mention and it is worth noting that we just recently updated the program. We were quite a bit behind on updates--around a yearish. We now have the the most recent version of the program and it is now that we are running into issues. Could it be that the new version detects or reads photo data (such as light) differently, or with more sensitivity? Thanks!

General / Photoscan Not Aligning All Photos
« on: January 17, 2018, 06:32:21 PM »
Good morning everyone,

I've been gone, and now I have returned! We recently ran into trouble building models in Photoscan on our Mac. When we import photos into the program and align them, the program does not use all of the photos. For example, only half of the photos show a green check mark next to them. So when I click on the info in the workspace pane, it only says, for example, "32/60 aligned". So the sparse cloud is coming out very incomplete. Anyone know anything about this? I can send screenshots if you think that will help! Thanks!

General / Transferring License to a Different Computer
« on: November 20, 2017, 07:47:39 PM »
Hi everyone,

Quick question today:

The lab I work in is looking to transfer the license for the professional version of Photoscan from one computer to another. Exactly how do we go about doing that? Do you just deactivate the license key on one computer and then activate the same license key on the other computer?

Thanks so much!

General / Are You Able to Change Units in Photoscan?
« on: November 06, 2017, 11:33:57 PM »
Hey all,

I am working on putting Photoscan models into Stratovan Checkpoint. I have posted previously about having trouble with the scale of the object in Checkpoint. Someone has suggested that there is an issue with the file format I am using. My Photoscan models are exported as PLY files. I just learned that these files don't actually carry information regarding units with them. Or at least something of that nature--not too great with this stuff.

So my question is twofold:
1.) Is there a way to change the units of the exported Photoscan model (preferably in millimeters)?

OR

2.) Is there another file format I can export my Photoscan Models in that DOES carry unit information, and that I can also use in Checkpoint?

Thanks for your time!

We are using scale bars.

It's worth noting, as I am looking at the issue right now, that Checkpoint does display a scale for the bone. However, this scale is an impossible size, i.e. it says an entire cranium is 1 cm by 1 cm. So it's just not understanding.

Thanks so much guys and gals, I appreciate it!

I am working with the professional version of Photoscan. As far as scale and proportion go, they are both perfect in Photoscan. The issue arises when the model is put into Checkpoint. We upload the models from Photoscan into Checkpoint as a standard ply file.
