General / Align to existing digital orthophoto?
« on: March 25, 2017, 11:00:11 PM »
Is there a trick to letting a set of collected photos choose tie points against an EXISTING orthophoto (e.g. a DOQQ) to avoid needing ground control points?

Two types of terrains: the terrain of the ground (often referred to as the Digital Terrain Model, DTM) which is generated only from points classified as "ground".  Other terrain is the "canopy model" which is basically the elevation of the highest point in each region (e.g. the top of a tree, which is removed from a DTM).  The difference between the canopy elevation and the DTM is the height of the vegetation.

I'm asking how I generate a DTM and a canopy DEM.

General / DEM of Top of Canopy?

I'm trying to generate a canopy height model which is the top of canopy elevation minus the terrain elevation.  The terrain elevation is easy enough, but is there some way to export a DEM of the HIGHEST points for a given region (the top of the plants -- all points, not just ground points)?  Thanks!

Thanks -- Map Pilot looks interesting but it is IOS only (no Android app planned).  Re: RAW vs. JPG, fair enough but it does seem like the quality of the JPGs could be higher.  Any ideas on an app that at least allows me to set the JPG compression?

Folks: I'm new to the drone-based photogrammetry world.  I'm trying to determine the best flight planning software that will work with a DJI Mavic Pro with an Android phone.  Pix4DCapture works well enough, but it doesn't allow me to capture photos in "RAW" mode, only a reduced-quality JPG which I'm finding is causing distortions in my images.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a good flight planning/autopilot that works for decent 3D photogrammetric purposes?

Alternatively, is there a trick to getting Pix4DCapture to collect RAW images (or, minimally, increase the quality of the JPGs?)
