Bug Reports / Null Image Error at dense cloud initialization
« on: November 24, 2020, 12:56:58 PM »
Hi,

I've been trying to build some larger models (ranging from 300-2000 images). Increasingly, as I get to the dense cloud stage, processing stops with this error (see attached .txt files):

2020-11-24 20:22:36 filtering 19 depth maps...
2020-11-24 20:22:36 using 206 depth maps including neighbors (4.46845 GB)
2020-11-24 20:22:36 preloading data... 2020-11-24 20:22:40 Error: Null image

This error seems to be intermittent, even when using the same batch file, so I have been unable to isolate what causes it.  Is this a known error and is there a solution?

Thanks
Neil

I have previously used the cloud processing on a Pro licence at University. Since then, I bought the standard version for personal use under the understanding that cloud processing beta was available.  The 'Network' tab (which is where cloud processing was accessed on Pro), isn't available in standard. Is there a way to access the beta cloud processing from the standard version or is this exclusive to Pro?

Cheers

General / Disabling Blue Markers when using CTs
« on: June 06, 2019, 06:42:17 AM »
Hi All,
I’m wondering if there is a way to disable or remove all blue marker projections or another means to solve the problem I’m having.
The problem is as follows: I’m building some models of long transects using coded targets as GCPs. I’ve chosen to detect the markers and input marker coordinates before aligning cameras to minimise warping which I’ve noticed in previous models. Sometimes, however, the marker detection is quite low.  When this happens, I have been aligning the cameras, filtering cameras by marker, placing markers to reach a threshold number of projections, then realigning the cameras and building the model from scratch (This saves me having to troll through 2000 photos to find the markers, especially considering marker detect often finds at least 2 points and projects grey flags for the rest once aligned).  The issue I’m having is that Metashape places blue markers on photos, often in slightly incorrect places or in photos I wouldn’t chose to scale, when I remove these blue markers, Metashape often replaces them.
Is there a way to turn this off, or remove the blue markers without manually trolling through 2000 cameras? I had heard mention of a script that would remove the markers but I’m hoping for an easier way that doesn’t add an extra step to the workflow.
Thanks in advance!

General / Fringe/tailing edge added to models after trimming dense cloud
« on: January 25, 2019, 08:07:39 AM »
Hi,

I have been building models of coral colonies in PS and have been trimming the dense cloud prior to adding the mesh to the model.  Photoscan seems to extrapolate beyond the dense cloud and adds a fringe or skirt to the outside of the models along the trim line (see attachments).  Is there a way to prevent this from being included in the mesh or a way to remove it without manual trimming of the model?

Thanks,
Neil

General / Re: Using only Z in GCP
« on: November 15, 2018, 06:52:32 AM »
Hi Alexey,

Thanks for your help.  I should probably clarify a few things.

When modelling the underwater seascape, the scene is prone to bend or twist especially in the Z axis, that's why inserting the Z data would be useful.  This means that the Z data would need to be assigned to points prior to creating the model.  Would I be able to give PS the Z data of detected markers prior to building the model in order to prevent this twisting?

Thanks,
Neil

General / Using only Z in GCP
« on: November 14, 2018, 06:08:25 AM »
Hi,

I'm using PS to construct underwater scenes.  I have a series of scale features included in each scene and have been using these to create scale bars.  As the images are collected underwater, it is easy to collect the Z data (through depth) however X and Y are near impossible to collect between scale features.  Is it possible to input only Z data for each feature without having X and Y auto-populate to 0?

Thanks

General / Ultra High Dense Cloud
« on: August 14, 2018, 08:16:38 AM »
Hi,

I'm creating a number of models which have been imaged in a large room.  In some of the models, photoscan assigns a number of points to the room itself thus lowering the resolution of the object I am modelling.  To increase the resolution for the problem models I have constructed the dense cloud on 'ultra high' instead of 'high'.  This seems to help with the total number of points in the assigned to the object and the number of faces on the mesh of the model, however, models constructed with an ultra high dense cloud have many large holes.  This was not an issue when constructing the models on the 'high' dense cloud setting.

I understand that the ultra high setting compares individual pixels whereas high compares every second and that this may mean that image quality has an amplified effect.  Am I correct in assuming this is the issue and is there a way to stop holes from occurring in ultra high?  If not is there a way to force more points to be placed on a specific area in the models which construct the whole room as opposed to the object itself?

Thanks

-Neil
