General / Re: Loading Animation path

Thank you Alexey for that answer, but it's not really what I want to do. But your script is a good example that I will keep. In fact, I'd like to keep the camera trajectory in the same order as you do, but always pointing the object at the center, i.e. with orientation quaternions pointing at the object center (0,0,0).

Incidentally, I sent you a message on the support email on another subject.

Best regards,

Hello bbehera,

Track .path file supported by Metashape doesn't contain yaw, pitch, roll angles - it stores the camera orientation as quaternion. So you will get incorrect camera orientation if the imported .path file has orientation angles input instead of 3 of 4 quaternion components.

Hello Alexey,

I would like to reproduce a camera animation path identical to the trajectory of a camera that took the photos.

I've been able to export the chunk cameras in the Omega Phi Kappa .txt  format and retrieve the coordinates of the cameras that took the shots, but is there a simple way, via export, to retrieve the cameras' orientation quaternions in order to build an animation .path file?

Furthermore, is there a simple way to export quaternions that would target the orientation of the cameras shooting towards the center of the object or towards a particular point of coordinates X,Y,Z targeted?

Thanks in advance,

Hi, Do you know if is it possible to change Center View with Marker position ?

Feature Requests / Re: ray tracing rendering
« on: October 26, 2023, 07:28:16 PM »
Hello sonno,

Do you need such feature for the visualization only or if any output should be saved/exported as a result?

Hello Alexey,
The ideal would be to be able to record in stereoscopy as well, as is currently the case in animations record, but with the possibility of adding a light source in the scene with raytracing calculation. This would avoid the need to export an OBJ + texture for import into Blender or Unreal... as the latter two programs are not capable of importing as many facets and processing them like MetaShape.
Bests regards,

General / Re: ray tracing with > 20 millions facets ?

Hi, I tried with UnReal5 on a 132 million facets mesh model and 16 x 4k textures. It imports the OBJ 3D model and texture file but I think nanite still decimates the mesh. But it works. It takes a lot of time to export from MetaShape and import into UR5. UR5 doesn't have a stereoscopic camera like MetaShape. Ideally, this feature should be added to MetaShape.

General / ray tracing with > 20 millions facets ?
« on: October 24, 2023, 12:44:53 PM »
Hi,

I've created many photogrammetric models with Metashape. Some are of the order of 10 million facets, others 150 million facets or more. Now, I want to calculate ray traced renderings. I have no problem importing 10 million facets into Blender, but even the latest versions of Blender crash above 60 million facets, for example. I can of course decimate the models, but I lose rendering finesse & nuance.

Do you know a way of importing so many facets into ray tracing software? Do you know of any software capable of rendering models with over 100 million facets without the need for real time rendering ?

Bests regards, David.

Feature Requests / ray tracing rendering

Hello, can you add ray tracing rendering with, for example, simply a distance-adjustable light source? This rendering feature would be useful directly in metashape, as ray tracing software often fails to process more than 60 million facets. bests regards.

General / animation point of focus ?
« on: June 19, 2023, 02:35:30 PM »
Hello,

When editing the cameras track of an animation's camera path. Is it possible to change the direction of the focus point to obtain a more plunging view ? for example, a view almost perpendicular to the box  You can change the height and location, but what about the direction ?

Kind regards, David.

Hi,

I'm creating animations on a 3D model in MetaShape. I want the rendering to be as close as possible to what we see with the naked eye. I'd like to check with you that the perspective calculation value of the default view of 30° corresponds to axonometric isometry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axonometry#Special_axonometries ? I haven't found the information on the perspective projection formula used for the view in MetaShape, but I assume it's axonometric (parallels seem to remain parallel, a round sphere is projected as a round circle) and not conical perspective, which is more like what we see with the eye ?

Rendering is obviously better in stereoscopic 3D. The parallax value for a stereo view, I assume that the value refers to the closest plane foreground represented ? or the center of the box ? The comfort value for the brain is between 2 and 3° for stereo reproduction on a standard-size PC screen.

What is your experience of the variation of these parameters in rendering ?

Kind regards, David.

Another thing, can you explain us the Max neighbors = 16 in Depth Maps info ?

11
Thank you Alexey. This parameter is well found by version 2.0.2. I use value = -1

In fact as explained on another post on the forum, I try to make a model of an object photographed in the dark with only 1 light source and in motion, so with a lot of shadows that change. There are many 9000 images.

During my first test without masks, I have a lot of noise and errors. I masked the shadows in the 9000 images and I get a much better dense point cloud because the parts in the shadows are not used anymore.

Now I try to improve again by increasing the number of used neighbors, to test with more. I have many images around but also at different distances. What do you think is the best way to handle this case ?

12
Hi,

I use version 2.0.2 to fix the ASSERT problem of the neighbors.

By default the calculation of the dense point cloud uses 100 neighbors at most. When I try to increase this value by preference -> advanced -> tweaks, the values BuildDenseCloud/max_neighbors / BuildDepthMaps/pm_max_neighbors parameters IS NOT FOUND.

What are the new parameter names please ? Do you have list ?

bests regards,

Alexey,

In fact I have many images but as there is only one incident light source, a part of the object shadows a second part. the calculation seems to be thwarted because of the shadows because on many images there is the information (illuminated part) and on many others the same part not illuminated.

With the magic wand, you just have to click on the 4 corners of the image to define an exclusion zone for the calculation from the outside of the object. The work task is very long and repetitive. So I used the WinParrot software to reproduce the task on all the images. https://www.winparrot.com/

The software is easy to use and programmable in a loop...

If one day you have the time to add options in Metashape to solve this problem of shadows, it would be perfect.

Hi,

I would like to make a 3D model of an object that has a lot of shadows all around on its rough and rugged surface. The object was in motion with fixed lighting but there is a great variety of shadows.

I want to remove these shadows for the calculations. For this I use "magic wand" with a tolerance of 30% for example and I click in the shadow, right click "Add selection" to define an exclusion mask. But the manipulation is very long on the number of photos.

Do you know a trick to remove the shadow areas and therefore the dim areas on a photo, typically that all pixels < 50% max lum are not taken into account in the calculations ?

Do you know if we can use and control the magic wand in python ?

All the best,

Hello,

I did not find an answer in the forum archives.

I want to align a calculated model in a metashape chunk to a PLY model imported in a metashape chunk. The PLY chunk not appear referenced R/T.

I can easily create markers on the calculated model and view them. But on the other hand, I can create markers on the imported PLY model (right click they appear in the chunk in the Marker folder with their coordinates), but they do not appear on the imported PLY view.

Moreover, when I align the chunks by markers, the chunk of the imported PLY is not available, it is grey.

is there a method or is this a bug?

Thanks for advance,
