Which Codecs - Good Question (i am no expert).
It should be H.265 from the camera.
VLC Media Player is working, Windows Media Player isn't working.

The 2 files are only examples. They are  2 files of only 1 half of my 360 shot.

Sorry - First update - The second file is now suddenly not working either.
I changed the two videos to smaller ones - (same problem)

General / Can't read video (0x80004005)
« on: April 28, 2026, 10:24:50 PM »
Hello everyone.

I'm trying to import a video, but I'm getting the following error message:

can't read video, error 0x800004005

I've already installed all the necessary codecs (K-Lite).

The really strange thing is: at first, I thought it was due to H.265, but even with H.264, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
The following link contains two videos: Input.mp4 and Input1.mp4. Both are from the same camera with identical settings. I can import Input.mp4, but Input1.mp4 gives me the error mentioned above.
(The videos have two tracks, so don't be surprised - together they are 16,5GB)

I have absolutely no idea why...

Hello forum!

Is it possible to colorize a dense cloud in the style of a DEM (red-to-blue-elevation-map)?
And: is it possible to apply this DEM as a texture to a 3D model?

Thanks in advance!

General / Predefine images as horizontal?
« on: October 04, 2021, 09:00:21 PM »
Hello forum!
I'm testing around here with a few shots from a panorama camera. (nothing special - Insta 360 ...)

Due to the built-in sensor, these are already aligned somewhat horizontally.
Is it possible to somehow indicate this fact in Metashape Professional without using control points or something like that? So, for example, define a horizontal line in several images as the horizontal, or something like that?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for your input!
After the hints and ideas I loaded the GeoTiff into QGIS and created the clr-map. After that, transforming into MS works very well.
Thank you for the input! (I would probably never have figured it out)

Here the histogram looks like this:
(or in other words - there is nothing)

Hi Paulo!
Thanks for the fast reply!
Unfortunately, I didn't create the file myself. This comes from an external institution over which I have no influence.
The image is georeferenced and has a bit depth of 8. Compression is "PackBits". Filetyp: "tif", with tfw-file.
The picture appears normal in other programs. Only in Agisoft it is not displayed correctly. (E.g. image editing programs such as GIMP)

General / Imported Orthomosaic - appears black? colors? alpha channel?
« on: April 07, 2021, 09:57:17 AM »
Hi forum!

I have a question that is probably easy to solve, but I just can't figure it out right now. (So before I try it for a long time, I just ask you briefly) - Thanks in advance!

I imported a few orthomosaics (public data), but one type has the problem that the colors disappear in Metashape.
The orthomosaic becomes black.
How can I fix this?
(I have attached two screenshots of the corresponding pictures)

Thanks in advance!

Hello Alexey Pasumansky,

pretty much as you described:

I try to scale and move existing meshes or dense clouds (actually no matter what, because you can transfer both into each other) using 3D points with exact coordinates.
Background: I usually work georeferenced (with UAV or normal cameras). Sometimes I have to incorporate other people's techniques into my photogrammetry models (scans, RGB-D cameras, modeling). These are usually not sufficiently georeferenced or diagonally in the coordinate system etc.
Here I am trying to combine the different works and techniques with Metashape.

General / optimize / transform imported mesh / dense cloud without cameras?
« on: February 18, 2020, 07:17:46 PM »
Hello dear forum,

I have different meshes and / or dense clouds (all types of file formats), which I prefer to import into Metashape. I have exact points in the models which I have to transfer to another coordinate system (so that I can connect it to other measurements). So to speak, I would like to set markers and use the "optimize cameras" function - only - of course I have no cameras / no camera information.

Is a "simple" transformation possible in this way? (like Helmert transformation / 7 parameters)
If yes how? (So, for example, fix the set markers firmly on the mesh / dense cloud and then optimize them?)

Maybe Metashape (even without cameras / only with a simple mesh or dense cloud) supports the very complex transformation, as in the standard procedure? (I don't think so)

If no: do you know of comparable freeware programs that enable this intermediate step? (possibly with instructions?)

Thanks in advance!
