Same question here! Would love to be able to select points within a shape without aligning all my photos first.

Polygon selection tool would be great too  :P

If you place markers in the photos, you should be able to generate an alignment with all data, georeferenced.

Feature Requests / OpenStreetMap in Ortho view
« on: July 22, 2020, 11:33:59 AM »
Hi,

As the title suggests, it would be nice if we could have the OpenStreetMap as a seperate layer in the ortho view, this way it would be easier to see whether something is correctly georeferenced.

Wouldn't it be possible to select that part of the model using the sideview (3 on your numpab) and switching to orthographic view after that (5 on your numpad)
You should be able to select just that part you are showing in the screenshot.

That is indeed the way to go as far as I know;

- Confidence filter the dense cloud
- Select all remaining points
- Assign those points to a class

From this point on you can either process only that class further into a mesh or tiled model, or you can reset the filter and delete all points in the other classes.
The way to do this would be; (continueing the previous steps)

- Reset filter
- Filter by class and unchecking the class where the points are that you want to keep
- delete all points
- reset filter
- reset classes

After this you can delete the remaining floating points by hand or the other tools Metashape provides.

Have you generated your dense cloud with confidence?
If so, you can apply that filter; using a range from 3 - 255 gives usually quite a good result. Any other remaining floaters are easily removed with the freehand selection tool.

General / Inverted normals laserdata
« on: July 19, 2020, 04:09:23 PM »
Hi everyone,

Currently we are experiencing problems with importing laserdata into Metashape 1.6.3.10732 (and 1.6.2).
As shown in the attached image, some normals are inverted. Of course we are able to invert normals, but when selecting the entire pointcloud and using that function, it inverts normals based on the view from the camera, so the normals on the other side, which are facing correctly, are also inverted because of the view from the camera.

Is there any way to fix this without selecting every surface individually and inverted the wrong normals?

With best regards,

I can confirm, it happens with any .ptx.
