General / Re: RAW file format - does it yet support it or still no?
« on: May 04, 2023, 10:24:52 AM »
Dear Alexey,

could you please give some insight on wheter the unprocessed raw information from the sensor (DNG files) can be of any advantage for Metashape? I assume the processing with raw files takes longer, because Metashape has to convert them before?

thank you and best regards

Andreas

Hello

A related question from my side: What are your experiences when working with raw (.dng) files? Do you see a clear improvement in quality compared to tiff or jpeg exports? I never noticed a clear difference in the mesh quality, only that the processing takes much longer with the raw files.

Thank you for this script Alexey, how would I have to change it in order to apply it only to a selected image ("current image")?

Feature Requests / Re: Iterative Closest Point Algorithm
« on: April 18, 2022, 01:37:48 PM »
Hello,

When I run through this script to align an imported scanned mesh to a photogrammetric mesh, everything seems to work fine in the intermediate alignment stages. They show good results (see attached print screen). However, after the final step when the script is finished, the "aligned" mesh is placed somewhere way off in the coordinate system. What could be the reason for this?

I am using the "Coordinate system to bounding box" script before importing the scanned mesh, in order to align the photogrammetric mesh in my local coordinate system - does this transformation maybe somehow interfere with the ICP alignment matrix?

thanks for any advice,
Andreas

General / Re: Projecting images onto imported highres scan model
« on: March 05, 2022, 03:45:07 PM »
hello,

I've been doing this with the following method a couple of times:

In order to use photographs to texture the 3D Model from as scanner, as jenkinsm said, you need to calculate a photogrammetric 3D model from the photos, so they are correctly aligned in relation to the model and a camera calibration is applied. In a next step your imported 3D scan has to be aligned to the model calculated with Metashape - only then can you project the photographs onto the 3D scan mesh and thus texture it.

To my knowledge, at this point Metashape cannot align photos to an existing 3D Model (from your scanner). Also, as far as I know, Metashape does not offer an option to align an imported 3D model from a scanner to a photogrammetrically calculated model based on mesh features (@Alexey: is this correct or am I missing something? This would be a very nice feature to add to Metashape...).
A way around this ist to export the calculated mesh from Metashape and align the 3D scan to it in a different software without changing the location and orientation of the Metashape mesh. After aligning the 3D scan, you can then save it, reimport it into Metashape und texture it.

hope this helps! best regards,
Andreas

Bug Reports / Re: Ripples appearing in built Mesh
« on: January 27, 2022, 10:33:45 AM »
Hello,

I'm experiencing the same issue when building the mesh from a dense cloud - also with interpolation enabled and strict masks disabled. It does not happen on the mesh based on depth maps, but I sometimes prefer working with the dense cloud, because filtering options before calculating the mesh are usefull.

Andreas

Bug Reports / Re: Mask defocus area works then un-works
« on: December 31, 2021, 09:10:21 PM »
Hello,

I have noticed the same issue. When generating defocus masks for single images ("current photo" selected) first the seemingly correct defocus mask appears and then it switches to the mask for the whole area of the model. When generating the masks for the whole set of images it mainly works, except that on some images completely blurry parts are sometimes not masked, while the crisp in focus areas are masked out. In general I find the results of the "defocus mask" tool quite unpredictable.

best regards,
Andreas

Hello,

I'm experiencing the same texturing issue (see attached image) in V 1.74 and have already shared this with Agisoft support.
Interestingly, in my case, the blurry patches only appear on the depth maps based mesh but not on the dense cloud based meshes.

Agisoft support suggested to use V 1.73 for texturing for the moment - in my specific case the texture turned out fine with that version.

Hello Alexey,

thank you for your reply - could you supply an ftp access to the Agisoft server, then I could upload my latest project where I have this problem.

thank you,
Andreas

General / Defocus masks
« on: May 26, 2021, 08:21:59 PM »
Hello!

I've noticed in different projects, that the generation of defocus masks (from V 1.7) gives very unpredictable results. Since I do close-range photogrammetry I would like to use this option to limit the reconstruction and the texture calculation to in-focus areas of the photographs. So I build an initial scaled mesh with only the necessary masks to allow for correct image alignment. I then calculate the defocus masks from the scaled mesh and do the whole photogrammetry process again with the defocus masked images. With this approach in many images perfectly in-focus areas of the object are masked out while completely blurry parts of the photograph are kept.

Does anybody have similar experiences?

@Alexey: What could be the reason for this?

best regards,
Andreas

Feature Requests / Importing photos into group folder
« on: May 20, 2021, 10:53:13 AM »
Hello,

I create group folders within the cameras folder in a project to keep my different photo sets structured. When I import photos by dragging them into metashape, they are always added to the main cameras folder, even though I drag them on top of a group sub-folder. I have to then mark them all and drag them into the specific group. It would be great if it was possible to place them in a group sub-folder directly by just dragging them there.

thanks and best whishes,
Andreas

Hello Alexey,

the latest build 12337 of 1.73 imediately breaks down and closes with a bug report window, when importing .dng files. JPEG and TIFF files work.

best regards,
Andreas
