Hello, I currently have a turntable style setup for capturing photos. On my turntable, I have 8 coded targets that I detect and import reference coordinates for to establish a  global coordinate system. Following this, to scale my objects, I manually add 72 makers (as check points - unchecked box) and add scale bars between the added markers.

Maintaining the same setup, I take photos of new objects and create new models. To avoid manually adding makers each time, I have tried exporting the markers from the original file and then importing the markers into the new Metashape file. When doing this, the markers only become registered / appear on the dense cloud when I "click" them on, turning them into control points rather than check points.

Can imported markers (originally placed as check points) only be registered as Control Points? Or is there an alternative method for importing / exporting markers to maintain them being used as Check Points opposed to Control Points (within the file that the markers are being imported)?

Thanks for any advice / help.

General / Re: Import Markers to New Workspace - Offset Issue

I'm relatively new to using metashape. Are you suggesting to add all my markers and then add additional ones with absolute coordinates to allow for my original markers to be positioned relative to the ones with absolute coordinates?

I have been trying to proceed this way, but the position of my original markers do not seem to transform (in x,y,z space) when adding additional markers with absolute coordinates. I am likely approaching it incorrectly, are there any help forums / articles you can point me to, to aid in this process?

Thanks

General / Alignment Error - Tie & Key Point limit = 0, Version 1.7.3
« on: June 24, 2021, 01:39:16 AM »
Hello,

I recently updated Metashape to Version 1.7.3 from 1.6.3. Previously when running the "Align Photos" on Version 1.6.3 I would set both Key point and Tie point limits to 0 and successfully align the imported photos. Running the same model on Version 1.7.3, with all settings the same the model does not align and states "Cameras Can't Align". The same photos will successfully align when I set the Key and Tie point limits to values other than 0 (i.e. 100 000).

Has anyone else encountered this issue when updated to 1.7.3? Does setting the limit to 0 no longer allow for limitless detection?

Thanks for any help,

Nick.

Hello,

I recently ran a Metashape Project with 3 chunks and a batch process (Align Photos, Build Dense Cloud, and Build Mesh) but did not save the Metashape Project itself before closing the program after completing. As a result, when I open my corresponding Metashape Project none of the completed tasks appear (as expected). However, I do have all the corresponding .files saved to my computer for all of the steps (dense_cloud, depth_maps, masks, point_cloud) and so forth.

Is there a way to create a directory to open these file folders in Metashape? Or will I likely need to rerun the batch process (and be sure to enable "save project after each step")?

Thanks in advance for any help.

General / Import Markers to New Workspace - Offset Issue
« on: June 13, 2021, 10:41:58 PM »
Hello, I currently have a turntable style setup for capturing photos. When scaling my objects, I manually add 74 markers and add scale bars respectively. As I take photos of several different objects over time I often process models in new workspaces but maintain the same setup. Currently, manually adding markers each time is very time consuming and I have tried exploring the method of exporting / importing markers but have been unsuccessful. I believe the issue is that when I export my markers it is in a local coordinate system that does not match the coordinate system of my subsequent models in which I import the markers. Is there a way to establish a global coordinate system between these workspaces so I can import/export markers and avoid manually "adding markers" each time?

Or does anyone have an idea on a better methodology for this situation?

Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions relating to this topic.

Camera Calibration / Re: Camera Calibration - Focal Length

Thanks again, was the Exif Data summary that you provided generated in Metashape?

Thanks Paul,

Within the Photo Pane --> Details, does the "35 mm focal" column represent the 35 mm equivalent? Should Metashape be calculating this automatically based on EXIF data? When aligning photos mine remains blank.

Camera Calibration / Camera Calibration - Focal Length
« on: June 07, 2021, 10:56:31 PM »
Hello,

For the focal length within the camera calibration (Tools --> Camera Calibration) should the input value for this represent the focal length of my lens or the 35 mm equivalent focal length?

I.e. If I am taking photos with a 50 mm lens, should I have 50 mm for the focal length or should I have 80 mm (50 mm * 1.6; where 1.6 represents my crop factor)?

Thanks.

Thanks a lot Paul. Especially for taking time to help with a very simplistic error.

Cheers,

General / Poor dense cloud construction
« on: April 29, 2021, 11:38:31 PM »
Hello,

I am recently new to using Metashape but have generated successful models using a turntable setup. My most recent series of photos appears to have a sufficient number of tie points but when creating a dense cloud from the tie points it fails to reconstruct the actual object itself. I have attached photos of both the tie points and dense cloud for reference. Any suggestions / help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
