General / Re: Empty DEM after importing lidar when trying to build a DEM
« on: December 07, 2023, 03:58:05 PM »
Hi T3,
check if your cloud is within the region (bounding box) of the model space.
If it is not, choose the region symbol and select "Reset Region". It then should appear where your cloud is.
DEM generation should work afterwards, as long as you choose extrapolated or disabled but not interpolated

regards noodlez

In order to generate the DEM or mesh surface from the imported point cloud in the project which has no aligned cameras you should use Disabled or Extrapolated option in the Build DEM/Mesh dialog. Using "Interpolated"  option will result in the "empty surface"  error, as it is trying to use the visibility area to crop the surface, but with no aligned cameras it doesn't work.

Hello AndyVirt,

If the point cloud is imported to the chunk without any aligned cameras, you also need to use Extrapolated option in the Interpolation field of Build Mesh (and Build DEM) dialog.

General / Bake Shapes onto Models Texture
« on: December 01, 2023, 01:47:38 PM »
I was wondering if there is a possibility to blend shapes into the texture of a model,
so that an exported textured model still shows the shape in any viewer.

@Alexey I've sent the project to the support mail address...

@TexasUAS
thanks, got my hands on a rtx 3080 oc that does the job now along with the quadro p4000

@DayGeckoArt and @Bzuco
I must have missed to check to get notified upon replies to my post and only now came back here randomly ::)

Thanks @DayGeckoArt for pointing out CUDA Cores - gave that a priority for the new GPU.
Also thank you @Bzuco for that hint to assess the workload of the GPU. I checked that and it seems to be more like your graph indicating that a GPU upgrade could increase performance.

So again, thank you for your help.

Hello Alexey, thank you for providing the script. It seems like it could do the right thing. However, the created model from the script is set off from the region.
It was lying far below the model wich leads to no texture at all. I guess z min and max from model or region might not be properly read out by the script. I tried to check it myself but did not get it to work. Maybe that is something that somebody could look into.

If the region is manually moved to be above the model then the created model from the script could be forced to cover the model region and textures get transfered to the model.
However, there still remains a problem with the texture itself as it is blurry for most of the model, wich i think is way worst than it should be judging from the textured reference model.
Is there any clue why that is or how it could be improved?

Thank You.

General / Export multiple measured profiles at once to one or multiple files
« on: September 11, 2023, 02:35:32 PM »
When creating multiple shapes as polylines on a DEM i'm able to export each of them as profile via right clicking the shape --> Measure --> Profile --> Save [to different formats].
For a lot of profiles i have no clue how to export multiple [e.g. all selected profiles] at once into MULTIPLE files. I would also love to know if it's possible to export multiple profiles to ONE output file.

Any hints are appreciated
Thanks.

I came across tasks where i reconstructed a rock wall along a railroad from UAV images.
For this purpose i use metashape to create a vertical orthomosaic facing towards the rocks via a cylindrical projection.
It works okayish when the rock wall can be described as an cylindrical shape. It's stil a pain to set up an ideal solution for the projection cylinder since there is no exact visual feedback, when using the current region option. Setting up markers for the cylindrical projections seems to be a bit more precise. However, since the radius is mostly realy huge, markers would be outside of modeled area and hence couldn't be set in the model view.

Setting up the cylinder through manually adjusting the region is a bit imprecise specially when the radius needs to be huge like in the attached screenshot.
It would be great if it's possible to use an imported shape (circle) that could be easily prepared in GIS, or have a code snippet that uses a shape to modify the region along X, Y axis leaving only the Z axis and height for manually adjustment.

Furthermore for even more flexibility it would be awesome to make use of an polyline feature that resembles for example a railroad and use that to approximate multiple cylinders for cylindrical projections that gets composed to a single orthomosaic with minimal distortions for each part of the polyline. CC is able to do exactly this with a point cloud, however having this feature for orthomosaic creation within metashape would be great.

Any ideas for that or code snippets to get closer are highly appreciated.

Thanks.

General / Re: Band combination in Photos View
« on: April 03, 2023, 02:12:11 PM »
To my knowledge it's not possible to show a band combination.
But you can change the shown band if you right click your Chunk and select -> "Set primary Channel". You can select the Channel where your targets are most visible.
Additionally you can try to increase brightness and contrast via right clicking your chunk and selcting  -> "Set Brightness".

General / Re: Hiding camera groups
« on: April 03, 2023, 01:29:35 PM »
Just one consideration,
while moving camera groups into another chunk does work, any tiepoints between images of moved and not moved groups gets lost.
So alignment needs to be redone! I think this is worth mentioning since i think you can't undo that.

Dear Community,

i'm experiencing a bottleneck when processing uav images with metashape prof. that i might consider to be due to the used GPU [Quadro P4000 8G] that seems to be not very competetive for FP32 operations. It's most obvious on projects with a lot of images ~1500 @20mpx cos processing also with medium quality could take multiple days.

AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT
Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus
32G DDR4-3200
nVidia Quadro P4000 8G

To boost performance it seems reasonable to upgrade the GPU. However, i'm not able to assess whether it would be better to go with RTX 3090, RTX 4090 or even with 4070, 4080 or some Ti variant since prices and capabilities are not that intuitive esp. since i'm not sure what GPU-feature metashape appreciates most.

Is there any experience or technical based recommendation for an upgrade for the workstation that also considers price–performance ratio. Or isn't the GPU the only bottleneck in the system and there is more to do?

Thanks in advance!
