General / Re: Is smoothing a point cloud causing this?

Yea I uploaded a LAS file to Sketchfab and you said you downloaded a PLY. Who knows what all is lost in that file conversion. I also noticed that the file size of what I uploaded versus the file size of the available download was half the size or less. That's why I first tried uploading to Agisoft Cloud first so we'd be working with the same exact file. Then I get hit with the unsupported datum transformation.

I really appreciate you helping me as much as you already have.

I don't know how else I can explain what I'm seeing besides this short clip.

Yea here is the portion of the raw LAS file that is pictured. I tried uploading to Agisoft Cloud but I guess local CRS aren't supported?

I tried 2 different values for smoothing and both resulted similar. No, the original point cloud is not evenly spaced or in a grid pattern. It is 100% of the points from the capture with no filtering. The 2nd pair of screenshots are of the raw data with no processing whatsoever.

It's 100% smoothing that is causing this. Here is the dataset before smoothing. So what is causing a 29cm line spacing in one direction? Anyone?

I don't see this issue in my point cloud until I smooth the data. These gaps can only be seen when looking from one direction. This is from a handheld SLAM scanner if it matters. Thanks for any help.

General / Handheld SLAM Laser Scanner Alignment
« on: June 06, 2024, 03:52:54 PM »
I have a handheld lidar scanner that I have scanned the interior of a building with. This scanner has three RGB cameras on it that I'm trying to bring in along with the point cloud. The images import as a multi-camera rig and align on their own pretty good. I have then added 5 markers in the images with the same placed markers added to the point cloud. They still will not align properly. My trajectory path and the point cloud lines up perfectly so you'd think Metashape could use this as a starting point for the images too. I've used the update button in the reference tab like I have read and the documents but it does not seem to do anything. Any help is greatly appreciated, I would like to recolorize the point cloud and create a texture for the mesh using these images.

I'm having the same issue and it has happened on two different projects in less than a week. "Save" and also "Save As" says "Can't unpack file". I now can't close Metashape or restart my PC without losing all the time spent on processing the project. I'm on v2.1.0

General / Re: Turntable Object Process Flow

For tie points I'll first click on Model>Gradual Selection then use those options to select the poor ones. Then remove the others manually. This is just so when you optimize the second time, on the merged chunk, it only uses those for optimization.

One step I forgot is to remove the markers from each chunk before aligning them. Not sure if that makes a difference but I do it since the same marker numbers are in both chunks.

I have a similar workflow but a few changes

1. Import Photos - 2 Chunks Top and Bottom

2. Batch Process both chunks:

Detect Markers > Align Photos (high quality) > remove non-subject tie points > optimize cameras > Build Mesh (medium/high)

3. Remove background and turntable > Build Texture

4. Generate masks from Model

5. Align and Merge Chunks > Optimize cameras again

6.  Build Mesh (high/highest) > Build Texture

I'm not saying this workflow is perfect, it's just what I do. Open to any suggestions.

General / Creating Mesh from LiDAR Point Cloud
« on: June 29, 2023, 02:29:12 AM »
I'm having problems trying to create a mesh from a LiDAR point cloud. The point cloud turned out great and is far better than any photogrammetry could create of these thin objects in the crane. When I create a mesh from this it isn't using majority of the points. What can I do to solve this? I've tried all 3 interpolation options.

General / Re: Buying DJI Mavic 3 CL or DJI Mini 3 Pro
« on: April 27, 2023, 05:08:51 AM »
Mavic 3 Enterprise is the only one on that list with a mechanical shutter. Electronic shutters still work but at a small cost of quality. M3E also has a faster capture rate at 0.7 second 20mp jpgs. If accuracy matters it also is the only one capable of RTK corrections. Lastly, though already stated, flight planning software is leagues ahead on the M3E. DJI will likely never release the SDK for the Mavic 3 line. M3E has had it from day one.

Ok I could say a lot about your photoset but I'll keep it short. I'm by no means an expert.

1) Try not to sneeze on your camera lens. Seriously wipe that dirty thing off. I can understand a few spots going unnoticed, but this lens is terrible.

2) More photos are needed. Especially on the edges where the two bigger sides aren't in frame.

3) Speaking of frame you should be closer to the subject. 60-75 percent of the photos are being masked out and useless.

4) Use a print out of detectable markers as your turntable pattern. I've attached a photo of mine as an example. It will help in the alignment. Just put the photos in a separate chunk every time you move the object.

I've also attached the camera.xml that you can import into your project. It's not perfect but you'll never achieve that with this current photoset. Good luck!

Feature Requests / Re: Instant NERF?
« on: April 17, 2023, 03:24:18 AM »
This is kind of like asking the National Football League if they'll start hosting baseball games in the future. NeRF's are completely different from a point cloud/mesh.. That's an understatement, they share basically no similarities to each other. From processing to end results. NeRF's are really only good for exporting a video from, not for 3D modeling or calculating volumetrics.

General / Re: Real time reconstruction with Metashape
« on: April 17, 2023, 03:13:07 AM »
I'm guessing one thing stopping a real-time calculation is how Metashape calibrates the camera during the first alignment step? So what if you used a fixed camera calibration that was determined previously? I've been very interested in the theory of real-time mapping. DJI Terra did this on the P4 but has kept this feature from the Mavic 3 Enterprise. I've even seen recently that some UAV LiDAR payloads have started to offer real-time geocoding. Is adding any type of real-time processing on the future road map for Metashape possibly? It would be an amazing tool for checking data while in the field.
