General / Point cloud problems

Hello all,
I am wary to come to this forum for answers on Photoscan's most basic features, but I am at my wit's end with this software. I am attempting to use the standard edition to generate models of ancient statuary. For each statue, I have several photos (15 - 20) taken from different angles.
Here are the problems I am facing:
A) After masking out the background of my photos and aligning the cameras, Photoscan does not present me with a model which resembles the statue in any way. Generally, the model consists of about 70 points (despite my having double checked that the max points were sufficient in the preferences) and only seems to be using data from two or three of the photos within my set.
B) After having problems with the statue photos, I photographed a very simple object from six angles to see if I could at least generate a trial model. Now, Photoscan simply does not generate points whatsoever after aligning the photos. Nor does it recognize that the photos have any points when I select the "view points" option.
Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated. I am a bit perplexed as to why I am having these issues. I've read the reference document, watched the tutorials, and have a fair amount of experience with 3D modeling and visualization. Photoscan, however, seems to be a real obstacle. Thank you!
