Bug Reports / Glitch when merging chunks

I'm using 1.1.6 and have been building a scan of a stick.  Due to the performance limitations of my laptop I opted to use chunks and merge them together at after producing a dense cloud.   At the final merging stage I'm placing together 2 sections, one longer than the other (as shown in the attachments), however every time the completed dense cloud develops a hole on the tip and side of the stick model that wasn't previously present.
