General / NEF, not supported, but contains metadata
« on: September 03, 2021, 05:32:00 PM »

Hi,

I shoot my photogrammetry scans with a Nikon in its native RAW format: NEF.  I know that Metashape does not support NEF.  My workflow now is to convert the NEF's to TIFFs.  I'm getting great results with converted Tiff files in Metashape with that process.  However, I know that Metashape reads metadata, and when I convert the NEFs Metashape loses access to the metadata.  Like I said, I still get good results, but I wonder what I'm losing by denying Metashape access to the metadata for each photo.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

See these 2 screen comparisons.  I scanned this object, and the results IN METASHAPE are beautiful.  Smooth, clean walls, detail in windows and doors, etc.

When I export it as an .OBJ file and bring into 3ds Max (or Modo) I get the 2nd result.  How can I export the object file and achieve the same level of quality that I'm seeing in the Metashape viewer window?

Thanks,

General / Beautiful Dense Cloud but poor quality model
« on: September 08, 2019, 11:03:53 PM »

Hi,

Have an unusal case with Photoscan.  Look at the 3 pictures.  Had no issues with camera alignment, and the dense cloud is almost perfect.  Creating the model, I set a "custom" face count of 800,000 faces, more than enough to get detail in the front part, but the final model looks terrible.

Usually I get beautiful models, so I'm scratching my head why this model is so poor.  Would love some advice.
