General / Forestry volume for mass timber.
« on: December 10, 2012, 06:04:30 PM »
Hi guys

Let?s see if you can help me.

I have a lot of customers that want the forestry volume to calculate the mass timber.
I did to a single plot in PS and worked fine.
But my customers need this to more than a hundred plots. So, to do this in PS is painful.
Is there another way to this in PS and/or ArcGIS or other GIS package?
I thought to crop all the DEM using a multi poligon shapefile, but in ArcGIS you need a reference plane above or below, so didn?t work because it put more extra volume.

Anyone could help on this??

General / 3D vector drawing CAD
« on: September 19, 2012, 04:29:15 AM »
Guys

I really really really NEED help on this.
Two customers are asking me to do a as built CAD drawings of some their plants using my 3D models.
I deliver them in pdf 3d or in ply/obj format.
They saw another company doing this using terrestrial laser scanner, but they want to me to do it.
What I did just for a test: exported the 3D model in dxf and in Autocad Map 3D I tried to draw one plant.
It was painful at least, and the drawing is so heavy that my tech almost couldn?t handle it.
I looked at internet and it seems there is some good softwares to do this, but I would like to know if you know a better software solution to do this.
It seems Autocad 3DS Design do this more easily, but I never used it..

Thanks in advance!

General / Low resolution video frames
« on: August 10, 2012, 04:13:34 AM »
Hi guys

I hope some one can help me on this.
A big company ask me to deal with some video frames with 800 x 600 resolution.
They work with machine supervision and they have a lot film cameras.
I did some treatment and worked fine with the alignment, but when I try to do the mesh things are going bad.
I would like to know if there are some special photo treatment do increase the resolution, or if this is right thing to do.
The imagery has 72 dpi and the frames have 500-600 k size.

Thanks in advance.

General / DTM and DSM for forestry
« on: June 04, 2012, 07:14:55 PM »
Hi guys

I have this situation.
My client has a large forestry areas and they want the DTM of it.
I show them the DSM that PhotoScan did in some photos we had in other forestry areas and they liked.
But they want to have the DTM beyond the DSM, because they need to extract the countour lines on the ground, this is more important to them.
So anyone had some idea to do it?
I know aerial laser scan do this but I don?t know how to extract this using PS.
I figured it could to apply mask on the forestry areas (pinus and eucalyptus) and generate the DTM on the ground, but it is quite time consuming.

General / Post-processing data
« on: May 21, 2012, 10:09:53 PM »
Hi guys

I don?t remember if this was asked before, but here it goes.

I am dealing most of time with aerial photos and some geological stuff.
For cities orthophotos and DEM are nice and my clients are happy with this.
But I notice in most of times, especially in urban areas, buildings borders are not this straight.
I would like to have a help to use a post-processing software/procedure to improve this.
I have a data set (large one) available to anyone that want to try on this.
And I have on big problem: most of times roads have some strange data, like they are made on gel...
So I need to fix that.
Most of time I use medium/high and height field to my data and some work fine, others not.
Anyway, anyone could help me on this?

Bug Reports / DTM -32767 values
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:45:47 PM »
Hi guys

In the last version when you go to Export DEM has a box that says "Crop invalid DEM"
I check this all the time but my Geotiff files always comes with this values.
It give me a lot headaches to fix this in ArcGIS.
Any help?

General / Bad reconstruction error
« on: April 27, 2012, 06:14:56 AM »
Hi guys

I am facing a trouble here.
I have 70 aerial imagery that in older photoscan professional version worked just fine.
But in the last two version 1419-1423 it gives me this error.
The sparse points are fine, better than the others versions, really better.
But the mesh is a completely mess! All the features are melting and they are distorced, they are bent.
If you look closely you will see the building, mainly the tall ones, are bent and melted.
I use height field, medium, and smooth. I did a test using height field, medium and sharp and nothing came, no mesh at all.
I am really concerned about this, need to discover what is wrong and I don?t want to back to older versions, since the new ones has a lot a good features to work.

General / 3D models on websites
« on: March 09, 2012, 05:26:42 PM »
Hi guys

I need some help about this situation:

Some of my customers need to see their 3d models on their websites. We sugest to use pdf, but it
didn?t work as it should.
So we need another way to put it on because they want to view all angles of objects, rotate, zoom, etc.
A friend of mine suggested to use flash, but I don?t know how to do that.

So, anyone could help on this?

Thanks in advance.

General / Video 3D
« on: February 15, 2012, 04:44:09 PM »
Hi guys

I have some HD vertical aerial video for environmental monitoring that I would like to process. I do take some frame shots of it and works ok, but I saw this video on youtube by Infinite Realities and I thought if could be done with my videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq4BUrEBvhA&feature=BFa&list=UUZz3Y7WVFrI7XCBTMVzdFHA&lf=plcp

My clients need the 3D/ortophoto and I know this could fit theirs needs.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I received from a client a txt with the coordinates from the center of the imagery, but everytime I will load it nothing happens.
And I have to put all this with copy-paste for every single photo...
Quite frustating.

See the attached txt and tell me what is wrong...

General / Slope volume
« on: July 07, 2011, 10:21:03 PM »
Hi guys

I have some slope volume to calculate, but PS doesn?t do because this is not a close feature.
I would like to know how to setup a box and close in the area of interest or which solution are you doing about this.
In the attached image you will know what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance.

Feature Requests / Aerotriangulation graphic and acuracy quality.
« on: July 01, 2011, 04:47:05 PM »
Hi

I would like to have a aerotriangulation graphic of the points and the frame camera, mainly for aerial imagery.
Other thing it would be nice if when you export the xyz omega phi kappa data is to able to run it in a adjustament software like Aerosys or other package to see the acuracy quality of the measuraments.
This is because some of my contractors require both those information, and would be nice if it could have it.

Thanks.

General / Face counter number
« on: June 30, 2011, 09:16:28 PM »
Guys

I am facing this situation:

I have some large sets of photos, some of more than 200 imagery, each one with 21.1 megapixel and I always think the 200.000 face counter number is somewhat limiting.
I mean, I want to know how to setup this for the aerial photos because the DEM is required to have very realistic details.
For terrestrial photogrammetric data set I realized this is not a big issue, except if your set is as large as aerial.
I did a test this past weekend setting this to 0 to a set with 116 imagery and gave a outstanding 13 milion vertices and took 89 hours to render. And quite a heavy data to deal. But very realistic one.
I understand you can decimate this, and I do that, but what is the ideal number to set before you do the decimate?

I hope to hear from you soon.

General / Photoscan vs laser scanner - lidar
« on: June 20, 2011, 05:48:36 PM »
Hi guys

I am getting amazing results using PS, really. But some of my customers are getting somewhat persistent regarding acuracy. They want to know how this compare to high end terrestrial AND aerial laser scanner - lidar. They love the final product we deliver but they want to know about how this will meet their acuracy needs. Since we do ground control surveying, both to terrestrial and aerial purposes and we show the RMS they are fine, but some questions regarding how many points, how dense this is, etc. is getting a little headache. ;)
I would like to have some technical advice on this because I am struggling to find a proper answer. If you have sugestions on links or books it will be nice.
Thanks in advance.
