Camera Calibration / Camera calibration board

Hello!
I'm having a small problem.
Currently I can't use Agisfot Lens for calibrating my camera Nikon D800E with 35mm lens.
The view is so wide I can't find a suitable and big enough LCD to take sharp photos that are needed to do a good calibration with optimal coverage of the calibration area.
So far I got my camera over to my friend who owns some other software which gives him a possibility to print/plot large scale calibration board. He made me a calibration which I then could convert using Lens. I think the board was about 1.5m wide.
Well... I'd like to ask you if there is a way I can do the same as my friend, like use a Cad software and make my own chessboard which I could then plot and take pictures for calibrating.
I would be really greateful if the answer is at least "it's possible".
If so, then I'll try to test the theory myself and see what results I get.
With best regards, Boris.
