Did you remember to use Keep UVs in the options for creating the new texture?

NICE! Glad to hear that!

Face and Body Scanning / Re: Scan Problem - Help Please.
« on: December 24, 2015, 09:32:14 AM »
Hi, without seeing more details about the system or the scan itself I am not sure what is causing it, it could be too few cameras, bad quality of pictures, etc.
But what I have done when I had an issue similar to this one is to select the cameras that didnt align (mostly sure you have some and that is causing this error) and reset them, then align those cameras again. At that time some of those cameras might align but not all. Then repeat the process only with any cameras that are left that could not align. Little by little you can get all the cameras aligned properly and get better results.

General / Re: RAM vs SWAP - can the job be done of you have enough swap
« on: December 23, 2015, 01:42:23 PM »
I can only tell you that swapping can slow down your work 10 times or more. If you can you must avoid the swapping.
Besides the fact that the computer becomes unusable during that time if you need to do anything else.

Well unfortunately as some people might know already, even though this is a beast of a video card, the HD 7990 is not good at overclocking :(  Even with the highest settings you can set in the AMD Overdrive or Afterburner, the difference in performance is minimal.
Anyway, I am happy that the card performs so well in stock form though :)

Another possibility would be the new GTX 980 Ti that came out a few weeks ago. It seems to have pretty much the same performance of the Titan X and it is cheaper, around $650.

Another possible one (even though it is getting old slowly ;) is the one I bought, AMD HD 7990 (2 HD 7970 in a single card). It did pretty good on the building test I just ran.
It is going as strong as the Titan X (actually slightly faster).
Device 1 performance: 192.642 million samples/sec (CPU)
Device 2 performance: 869.168 million samples/sec (Tahiti)  (1 half of the card)
Device 3 performance: 847.02 million samples/sec (Tahiti)    (the other half of the card)
Total performance: 1908.83 million samples/sec

So the actual card itself did 1716 million samples/sec

The only problem is that it is pretty thick so even though you can place 2 cards next to each other, there will be almost no space for ventilation on 1 of them.

Hello everyone, I just finished building a new machine for Photoscan processing. It uses an Intel I7-5820K processor, 32GB of DDR4 RAM and an AMD HD 7990 video card. For those that dont know this card, it is composed of 2 HD 7970's "sandwiched" together into 1 single card with 6GB of memory.
The results I got were pretty good. I ran the building test in Ultra high.

Device 1 performance: 192.642 million samples/sec (CPU)
Device 2 performance: 869.168 million samples/sec (Tahiti)
Device 3 performance: 847.02 million samples/sec (Tahiti)
Total performance: 1908.83 million samples/sec

I will tweak the video card and overclock it a bit to see what can it do.
Will report back soon.

Face and Body Scanning / Re: Rectangular vs Circular shooting area...

Hi Lee, yes I am close to trying it and hopefully I will get as good results as I got before in the elliptical area I had. I will for sure post the results so that hopefully anyone interested can benefit from the information.

Hi Viper, this is really amazing indeed!  But I have a question, I saw the introduction video and I see that when the program is doing its magic to retopologize, skin and add a skeleton, there is a part where it replaces the head of the character with another one. What is that? Why I don't see the original head coming back?
I am sure I am missing something but I didn't see it.
Thanks...

Yes, most of the Studio flashes have the "slave" optical system that triggers automatically when a first flash goes off.

Well I will guess no one has done it like this or that it really doesn't matter much since there are no comments on this?

That is strange that you get the black portions? I know that Canons are a little more unreliable for synchronizing than the Nikons but this seems excessive.
I use the normal Yongnuo receiver connected to the "flash trigger" camera and then connect the AlienBee transceiver on the hotshoe to dens the signal to 1 flash and the other flashes are set to salves so they fire automatically as soon as the first flash starts to fire.
You shouldn't have to buy so much stuff to make the flashes and the cameras sync correctly?

Hi wesclei, the Yongnuo remote can trigger cameras and flashes if you want. But the way I do it (that was learned through this forum) is to trigger the cameras only and you set them to shoot at 1/10 sec and there is 1 designated camera that is set to second curtain sync and that one has a remote that sends the signal to the flashes (I use the AlienBee flashes)
that way by the time the camera sends the signal to the flashes, all the other cameras have their shutter opened and they all capture correctly.
This works pretty good even if you have some normal lights in the scene before the flashes fire but will give you some shadows if you are trying to capture really fast movement like moving head with hair or something like that. For that to work correctly, you have to dim the lights as much as possible (something that will create a little uncomfortable sudden light in the persons eyes)
Let me know if you have any other questions...
