General / Re: photos not aligning past version 1.1.0 , help
« on: May 02, 2015, 07:30:00 PM »
thanks for the replies, i will realign again on tuesday and use 0 for the tie points setting as i did not touch this and this seems the only difference in the alignment settings that i can see.

all my work is turntable based images and generally i only have had issues aligning with glossy objects. However this has stopped me upgrading all my licenses to the latest version before as images have failed alignment for me when i was trying the beta 1.1 version and i had stayed with 1.0.4 on my workstations , if this does not work i will realign in the older version and on tuesday i will post some of my images and results.

General / photos not aligning past version 1.1.0 , help
« on: May 01, 2015, 08:00:52 PM »
i have previously stayed with version 1.04(ish) when aligning photos as certain images just do not align for me in the later versions. Today I upgraded to the latest version and once again photos are not alligning for a model that previously worked in my earlier version :-(

i have approx 100 photos, have chosen medium for a quick align and have tried both generic and disabled alignment and for all the settings the photos are simply projecting from the same point instead of 360 degrees.

What has changed in between versions and what other options do i have in order to allow my photos to align?

I have not masked any of them as they have a white/grey background and on my previous version i did not mask them either.

I am a bit stuck as this has happened on other machines and with other photos on new version as well...

cheers, would be amazing to see that im convinced the gt card will be quicker but most gt970/80s are gamers laptops and weigh a couple of kilos and have neon yellow alien graphics all over them.

thank you so much, the m3800 was one i was considering getting , just the k1100 card putting me off in terms of performance vs a gt card, i will run the benchmark on my macbook gt650  and compare, really keen to see a gt970 benchmark

General / laptop GPU for photoscan processing
« on: March 11, 2015, 09:24:18 PM »
Hi, a lot of the scanning i am starting to do involves being away from my workstation and  I'm really being let down by the speed my current laptop is taking to process even low quality meshes. Can anyone recommend a GPU on a laptop that would do a decent job.

Currently i am thinking either quadro - 1100m/2100m or gtx range - 965m/970m

anyone have experience of either range and can tell me which is better for agisoft as I will be primarily doing quick meshes for the cleint/myself to preview the scanning process. Heavier processing can be done on another dedicated non mobile workstation.

any benchmarks for laptop gpis?

thx

i thought the os would automatically manage virtual memory ? i don't know, when i turn on activity monitor it is showing as using 31.99gb of ram so photoscan is getting its fair share of real ram

i was thinking about using 3ds max or similar to build mesh but i had not done it before, i am going to process it again as high, i think the issue is with the dense cloud, it is massive i have not seen anything that large before.

Any experience of processing dense clouds in other software? is agisoft better for this ?

thx for response

General / system out of memory , what can i do?
« on: March 11, 2015, 08:41:41 PM »
Hi,

I am using a university mac pro with 32gb ram, i am processing an ultra high dense cloud - (105,708,624 pts) with 114 cameras. When I go to process high mesh (21million) it gives me an out of memory error after around 6 per cent. I have tried on a custom count of 8 million and get the same error.

Should I reprocess the dense cloud at a high setting and go for high mesh or settle for a low mesh from an ultra high dense cloud. Bit confused as recently i have been processing everything on ultra high dense cloud and the results seem to be a lot better than high dense cloud.

thx

i use a dell workstation with a samsung evo ssd and a mac pro with a 'hybrid' (ssd) drive and have never had issues with the drives in photoscan?! pls elaborate on t this issue as i will be buying more licenses and workstations in due course...

did you rotate, move or scale the obj in zbrush? if you did the uvs will be altered and will not line up when reimported into photoscan

i have several education licenses of 1.04, will i be allowed to upgrade to 1.1.0 or will i have to repurchase??

thank you

right now the issue is synching all the cameras of differing types and delays with the flash. The 5d mk2s are in time witheach other, the 700ds have a delay...

Have read about these problems users were having before and was wondering if there was a workaround other than changing my triggers for more expensive pocket wizards? i am using the RF603iis as linked above. Basically some cameras show black bars others maybe 1 out of every 10 images it has synched with the flash. Everything appears to be triggering in different timings. I am using 1/125 on them all, should i slow this down on cameras that show black bars?

Is the best solution to remove the flash?

if you can fire the cameras without delay let me know , if its as affordable and useful as smartshooter i am sure many others will also be interested...

Face and Body Scanning / Re: More megapixels or better optics?
« on: July 08, 2014, 03:53:26 AM »
as marcel suggests the L has superior optics, i borrowed the lens so do not have it to do another comparison, the one in question is very expensive so a middle of the range 50mm fixed focus may be better, once i get the lens again i will do a fair comparison between that and the kit lens, if i remember when i used it before i was just starting and used different lighting between the two and raws for the better image, however just looking at the images its obvious the L lens produces better images

thanks for the info FLuca, and the pictures going to go with 7 tripods around initially will post results once complete
