Face and Body Scanning / Re: Information union mesh and texture

As always (I think) Wishgranter is correct. Here's a scan I did of my father, then joined with Captain America's body. In Zbrush, of course :)
It's not very detailed, but I was just playing.

I, too, am curious about pricing.

My rig currently has 15 cameras, but I intend to expand to 21. It will be used to generate heads for printing, but not in color. They will be high resolution and more like sculptures.

I know how to price the prints, but am clueless on the pricing of capturing, then sculpting the finished product.

I already have a busy store, so my overhead is covered there. To capture a larger market, I was considering $500.00, but Ruffy has me thinking.

I'm very open to this discussion.... and thanks.

Yes. Thank you.
I was doing a little looking around and found this article on using projection. It seems to say they had better results with a lower resolution, slightly out of focus pattern. (Did I misunderstand?)

No. I go back and forth from Michigan to N Carolina.
I got so excited last night I ordered two, so I'll see how they work out.
Thanks, and I'll post after I get a chance to play with them.

Thanks Justin.
Yes, this might be the ticket. I think I'll order a couple and see where that puts me.
Any guess on how many of these I'd need to illuminate a face? At this point, faces are all I'mm interested in.
Again- Thank you

Thanks MeHoo. Very interesting.
Do you use projection with it?
I have a 15 camera rig and have had problems getting ALL the cameras to fire simultaneously (almost always one or two blackouts). This might be a solution. Cool.  8)

Thanks Leo
I'm not clear on your last sentence. What kind of superclamps?

Yes, I've been wondering how these clamps would hold up...

Face and Body Scanning / Yongnuo Transceivers and double ballhead clamp
« on: September 16, 2014, 11:29:16 AM »
Gradually, my rig is coming together and I wanted to share with you a little info on a couple of products I've tried.

First, is the Yongnuo Tranceiver. Very cool device. When you order, you get 2 units, with each unit being both a transmitter and a receiver. Hense, the "transceiver" designation. Consequently, if you have multiple cameras, you need only the one transmitter and the rest are all receivers.
When ordered, they came 2 to a package for about $30.00. The package only has the one cable, so you will need to purchase extras. However, even with that additional cost, I'm into each unit for under $20.00. And, yes, they work with my Alien Bees flash.

Here's the one's I got

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HOX8X9G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The other product I picked up is a multifuction double ballhead clamp for clamping the cameras to the tripod. It works and they run about $20.00 each.

Here's where I got them.

Hope this helps

Of course, you could check out Jeffery's new site

It's not up yet, but should cover what you're looking for.

Good luck  ;)

Face and Body Scanning / USB 3.0 cables for Canon
« on: July 29, 2014, 01:33:04 PM »
I'm very grateful for all the information I've found in this forum and have been faithfully following much of the advice.

One point of confusion for me is that I have chosen Canon cameras and am wanting to tether the cameras (I've started with 9) using USB 3.0 cables, but it appears that Canon does not accept USB 3.0 (which is probably the reason I can't seem to find any USB 3.0 cables for the cameras  ;D).

Is there a work around? Or, perhaps, did I miss something?

Thanks again to all of you (and best of luck).

Face and Body Scanning / Re: The Business of 3D Scanning

Ruffy

I'm not sure what I may be able to contribute, as I am now just venturing into this, but I am interested in the topic.

My interest in this technology is for digital sculpting and 3d printing. I've seen a number of 3d color prints, but the only detail  that is provided is from the texture. The underlying meshes that I have seen usually need quite a bit of work and have little detail.

My business plan involves generating a very detailed, well topologized and optimized mesh (just head scans).  Then I can print out a bust or incorporate it in a larger scene. Or just make a bobble head doll. Of course, I can also make a "Rick" doll for my daughter's Barbie  ;D That'll make playing dolls a little more fun. I'm thinking the options for art are endless with the new printers and all the new materials. I like the idea of personalized art.

As for price... I need to see how long it takes and how much it cost. But, I really like this topic to discuss how much to charge and how people will be using this technology.
