Hard for me to say but I don't do what you dealing with 3D products. I am on more of aerial photography and GIS side so I'd say most of my project with this software DOES a really good job !!

It takes a lot of hard work to put into and learning curve on this software. I would give them the 5 stars of 5.

For me, when I read your message here , I would always suggest make a backup of your work if things goes wrong. You can always go back to the previous one.

And for the new beginners I can understand how frustrated you are and I was like that before but I didn't give it up and put my skills to use it... I love it this software...

I would not trade for any other software because if this software had not been out , I would be stuck dealing with ERDAS doing the similar work...

Just sayin' and keep learning !!!

Honestly I also wouldn't trade this software with anyone else.
I have been using it since 2014 and have seen it grow and improve version after version.
I do not work in the field of aerial photography or GIS (I would love to learn this too) but I collaborate with companies and museums for the reconstruction of objects in 3D both for the conservation of cultural heritage and for advertising (statues, monuments, ancient finds, but also common objects such as shoes, etc. etc.).
This post was not meant to be a destructive criticism.
My post was just to bring to light the problems I am experiencing regarding my work and to understand if the problem I encountered was only mine and also bring it to the attention of the Agisoft Team to give it feedback, from who use Metashape, to improve.
In this case it is not a question of improving the learning curve (I am not a beginner), here we speak that version 1.7.1 has problems and does not reconstruct parts of an object that instead in previous versions of the software are quietly reconstructed.

I did this test after reading Andreas1206's post (
I have tested the same set of images in different versions of Metashape (v1.6.4 - v1.7.0 - v1.7.1).
I used the same alignment from v1.7.0 and generated the mesh in the different versions using the same settings:
Source Data: Depth Maps
Quality: Ultra High
Face Count: High
Depth Filtering: Mild

The results are truly different.
Version 1.7.1 (the faster than the other versions) seems to be the worst in this case.
Do you also have these problems with the latest version?

Thanks "Andreas1206" and "cbnewham"
your advice was very useful !!!
I did a new quick test
I would say excellent as a second attempt, considering the quality of the first (from my point of view, of course)
In the next few days I will do other tests to improve

Thanks Andreas for your suggestions.
What you see is only a test made on 50 euro cents
To illuminate the coin I used a Ring-Flash, but being very close to the subject the light practically hit the object only from the sides and not from the front.
Unfortunately, on the objects that I will have to photograph for the museum, I cannot use anything to make them less shiny
I will definitely try to use a light tent to diffuse the light and I will try, at this point, to use other lenses.
Thanks again

Hello everyone.
I'm doing some tests with the Macro lens and I'm trying to reconstruct some coins
I'm trying to figure out how to do this type of reconstruction because I will have to do some reconstructions of ancient coins for a museum.
I have been involved in photogrammetry for some years but never with such thin subjects and surfaces.
I approached the object as if it were a wall, it seemed the most logical thing to do, but the results are really strange
Metashape doesn't give me back the thickness but it does the exact opposite.

To take the images I used a Sony a7R3 with the Canon 100mm IS 2.8 and the "Super 35mm / APS-C" mode.

What am I doing wrong?

General / Texture problem
« on: March 15, 2019, 02:05:36 PM »
Hi guys, I need help.
I have this problem when I create a texture for high poly but it doesn't happen for the decimated mesh.
What can it be? How can I solve it?
I need the high poly for baking normals and texture.
Any help is appreciated!!!

Bug Reports / Standard edition 1.1.0 align stage crash
« on: January 07, 2015, 08:07:22 PM »
I have installed Photoscan 1.1.0 2004.
When i try to align more then 7/10 images Photoscan crashes during "Estimate Camera Location" phase.
Does not matter if i use high, medium or low settings.
The same set of images work fine with older 1.0.4 version.
How can i solve?

My system:
Windows 7, i7-2600k, nvidia gtx780
photoscan standard edition

Best regards

p.s.: i have attached 2 log files. 1 for the 7images set that works fine and another with the whole set crash
