Hi, in case anyone finds this forum post in the future -- the answer appears to be to make a stitched equirectangular and then convert it into a 6-sided cubemap, then feed the cubemap images to Metashape. No additional configuration needed. Appears to stitch faster than setting up camera stations with as-good or better accuracy.

I'm using Metashape Standard and was inspired by this video ( to try capturing an outdoor scene with 360 video to get a point cloud with Metashape. I've had previous luck with limited sets of 360 photos but this is my first time trying it with thousands of frames.

My camera outputs 6 fisheyes per frame. I can manually assign each them to a group and set it to Camera Station but this process breaks down due to the size of the dataset.

Is there a workflow for setting up the camera stations in an automated way?

Hello mellinger,

You can put something under the object (on the turntable) that has irregular texture pattern with distinguishable features - could be just some printed pattern or a textile, jeans, etc.

just make sure that this pattern is moving with the object. Also, depending on the object that you are working on and the turntable size, may be reasonable to leave some blank (untextured) space under the object in between with the artificial textured background - it would help to avoid excessive manual work while removing the background parts from the model or during masking.

Very helpful, thank you!

I had great results with an AMD Vega 64 in a Razer Core X eGPU enclosure.

I'm using a lightbox and a turntable to scan objects. For heavily-textured objects, I'm able to get the cameras to align without too much hassle. For more simple objects, it's having a hard time. I would love to use the printable markers to help with alignment (from Pro), but this is for an indie game that can't justify the cost on a single feature. Is there a recommendation for something I can place the objects on with a lot of detectable features to help with alignment? Would that even help?
