General / How does Metashape search for tie points?

Hi all,
Would anyone be able to explain to me the criteria used by Metahsape when analyzing key points in search of tie points? I remember having read that it searches for patterns of variation of brightness among groups of a certain amount of pixels. I would very much appreciate if anyone could coorect or confirm this. Thank you!
