General / Creating Shapes via texture or ortho color
« on: January 14, 2021, 01:36:05 PM »
Hello all,

Brilliant minds out there, is it possible to (via python scripting) generate shapes enclosing regions based on orthophoto colors? It would be similar to the way masking by color (i.e. "pick screen color") works, however it would create a polygon or multiple polygons enclosing all of the said regions of interest. Any hints would be appreciated. I know it's a big ask and I will try my best to sort it myself if someone can point me in the right direction.

After reading through the API, it would be something akin to generate seamlines, which are polygons. I know it's out there somewhere.
Cheers,

General / Re: New 1.7 Cylindrical DEM/Ortho Issues
« on: January 13, 2021, 01:20:25 PM »
I have read that walk through yes. It didn't specify that one needs to use the mesh. Yes. It does work now. I have placed the GCPs around the bottom plane that the cylinder is on so I am able to use the Z axis successfully. However, since the cylinder isn't centered (ie cylinder axis is not on X=0 Y=0) the output DEM has a sinusoidal trend added to it. But, I can see that's because the radius of the basic cylinder shape (not including the the objects glues to it) varies in distance, rather than being constant.

I find the placement of markers approach to be difficult. Placing the markers where there is no mesh, or even just adding markers, unchecked, seems to cause the automarker adjust thing to kick in and new blue flags for different markers appear. I've tried shutting this of but I don't see the option anymore in the advanced tab.

One other thing, the shape and scale of the output DEM is not right. Is there some sort of exaggeration? I can calculate the surface area of the cylinder and if unrolled into a plane it should be a rectangle.

Feature Requests / Auto marker location
« on: January 13, 2021, 12:43:33 PM »
I figured I would add this to the "requests" section. There are plenty of requests and I haven't scrolled through all of them. So for a first mention, I thought I would focus on the automatic placement of markers after a few are manually placed. I didn't have the option on for a long time and then selected it. I generally don't like it much due to the constant readjustment AND placement of the blue flags. Then you have to manually go through and if it's placed incorrectly, or say on an area that I'm not comfortable saying is correct (say due to focus), you have to right click, remove marker.

Sometimes I think just moving and adjusting the grey flame markers would be better. It is good practice to go through and check our markers, but it is much easier to click through and do a simple single click on a grey marker to make it green. Sort of skip all the right click, move down, select remove marker, nonsense. This might also help with new blue flames being populated after adding one new green one. Seems I have to keep going back through the markers after adding one because it readjusts and re automatically places the blue one.

Or, another option I've been thinking about is making it so if you open the "show info" dialogue for a marker, and sort by error, you can easily inspect which images have a high marker placement error. But you can't simply correct it. You have to close the "show info" window, correct the marker and then reopen the "show info" window, then click to sort by error again. If this "show info" window could be changed into a new tab like "workspace" or "reference", then you could easily have that info open and quickly double click an image with said marker and high placement error, adjust marker, then double click the next image with that marker and so on.

It's just a thought but you folks at Agisoft do a damn good job of integrating suggestions and making this software super user friendly.

Cheers

During the importing of a video file to decompose into frames, is it possible, using some syntax, to have the "filenum" be padded with zeros? So that in other softwares it wont think of the sequence as 1 2 3...10 100 101 etc etc ad naseum. would be helpful for linking it up with other outputs from other programs that allow this sort of naming convention.

General / New 1.7 Cylindrical DEM/Ortho Issues
« on: January 12, 2021, 03:25:56 AM »
I was wondering if anyone could clarify the correct processing steps to generate a cylindrical "unwrapped" DEM and corresponding ortho. I have gotten the DEM sorted, as far as I can tell just from looking at it. I did notice that the scale is not correct and that if the bounding box is big, the DEM will have extrapolated area. So, some adjustments of the bounding box solved this issue. My cylinder is sitting vertical, I define the vertical axis to be Z. I've added some GCP markers around the cylinder that all have X,Y,Z values and Z is 0. So, the model is pretty straight up and down. I generated the DEM and used the cylinder projection with the orientation being Z. Comparing the "unwarpped" dem to the photos, everything seems to be in place (again, not taking into consideration the scale issue).

However, no matter what selection of Ortho generation I choose, nothing works. It always ends up a mishmash of colors. First try was using the same settings as DEM generation. Z axis was the orientation. Alas, that didn't work. Nor did any other choice.

Anyone have some clues or ideas I could try out. I've been looking online but no mention of this issue.

Cheers
