If the homogenous landscape was an issue, I'm not sure why the Mavic 3 Multispectral orthomosaic does not show the same striping artifacts as the Micasense orthomosaic, despite showing the same area. I imported the multispectral images as a multi-camera system, and then I aligned the photos using high accuracy, generic preselection, a key point limit of 40,000, a tie point limit of 4,000, and adaptive camera model fitting.

Yes, I have not had any issues with Metashape crashing since setting the Performance Active-Core Tuning Ratio of all of the cores to 53x. This was the only thing I found that worked for me, so I would suggest trying the same if you are having issues.

General / Striping artifacts when orthorectifying drone imagery
« on: June 03, 2024, 09:20:09 PM »
Hello, I am curious if anyone else has encountered any striping artifacts when orthorectifying drone imagery, where parallel flight lines alternate between relatively darker to relatively lighter reflectance. These artifacts are affecting my results when applying spectral indices to the orthomosaic to classify various surface features.

For reference, I am working with multispectral imagery acquired by a Micasense RedEdge-MX Dual Camera system, which was mounted to a DJI Matrice 350 RTK. The mapping survey took place over the Lemon Creek Glacier in Southeast Alaska, and the images were acquired over a three day span since we were mapping such a large area. As such, there were differing lighting conditions encountered during the course of the survey.

My first thought was that differing sun angles were causing the striping artifacts when the drone flew in a westward direction vs an eastward direction. However, I also captured imagery with a DJI Mavic 3 Mutlispectral over the same area and time span (see the second attached image), and this orthomosaic does not show any striping artifacts at all. Therefore, I am not sure why the striping artifacts would show up in the Micasense orthomosaic, but not the Mavic 3M orthomosaic. Could this be an issue related to the Micasense camera system?

If anyone knows what might be causing these striping artifacts, please let me know!

Thanks,
Colby

I just wanted to provide an update that I was able to fix the crashing issue by going into the Intel(R) extreme tuning utility and setting the Performance Active-Core Tuning Ratio of all of the cores to 53x. Thanks @Dim4pap for the suggestion! After changing this, Metashape has not crashed once on me over the past month. Hopefully this will help anyone who may still be struggling with this issue.

Hi 3dMB Ltd, sorry to hear you are still having issues. I don't believe the issue is caused by the motherboard. I built two identical PCs at my university, apart from the fact that they have different motherboards, to perform Metashape processing. One PC has a Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX, and the other has a MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk. Both PCs are still crashing during Image Alignment...

It is interesting that geodamkru was able to solve the issue by swapping to an Asus Prime z790-P, and Tumno was able to solve the issue by updating the firmware on their NVME SSD. Neither solution have worked for me.

As of now, I am leaning toward agreeing with Alexey Pasumansky that the source of our issues are the Intel Core i9-14900K and Intel Core i9-13900K CPUs, as everyone in this thread has one of these CPUs in their systems, and many other users have had issues with these chips outside of Metashape.

I am currently traveling for work, and won't be back to my university until March, so I am unable to run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool or the Prime95 test on my CPU until I get back. If both of these tests pass, but I still believe my CPU to be faulty, does anyone know how easy it would be to RMA my CPUs with Intel? I am hoping that moving down to a Core i7 may fix the issue, but I would need to be able to get a refund on my i9 chips...

Thanks!

I have also tried all of those troubleshooting tips but have not been able to fix this issue. This seems to be a Metashape issue only, as I have not had crashing issues with any other applications. I am not overclocking any of my components, the temperatures are fine, and my RAM does not have any issues.

See attached for the Windows Event Viewer error log.

Hi JW and PolarNick, thank you for the suggestions regarding RAM troubleshooting! I am starting to believe this issue doesn't have anything to do with my RAM, and instead there must be an issue somewhere else. I am having this issue with Metashape crashing on my PC at work. I also have my own personal PC at home, which I tested the same Metashape project on, and it was able to align photos without crashing!

My theory is this: If Metashape is able to function properly on my home PC, then those sticks of RAM (two sticks of 32GB DDR5 RAM) must be good. I also tested them with Memtest86, and they passed with zero errors. If I then brought those functional sticks of RAM to work and slotted them into my work computer, and Metashape still crashed, then I could conclude that the issue wasn't with the RAM, since I had already verified those worked on a different computer. However, if Metashape was able to align photos without crashing, then I could conclude that it was indeed an issue with faulty RAM.

When I ran this test at work with my personal RAM sticks, Metashape crashed again when aligning photos. This leaves me to conclude that there is some other issue not related to the RAM. Perhaps an issue with the CPU or GPU? Or some Metashape settings? I'm not sure what else to troubleshoot, besides maybe swapping my personal GPU with the one at work to see if the GPU is causing issues.

Any other thoughts would be much appreciated!

Specs of my home computer:
OS: Windows 11 Pro
CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (MSI model)
Memory: 64GB DDR5 RAM (4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance)
Storage: 2TB NVMe SSD
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX

Specs of my work computer:
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise (Version 22H2)

General / Metashape Pro Crashing During Image Alignment
« on: October 13, 2023, 11:33:06 PM »
Hello,

I am having an issue with Agisoft Metashape Pro (Version 2.1.0) consistently crashing during the image alignment step. Metashape is able to get through the matching points phase, but usually fails during the estimating camera locations phase. Occasionally, Metashape will successfully be able to align photos, but other times the application crashes, despite the fact that it is processing the same set of photos with identical parameters. Thus, I can't make sense of why it will work some of the time, but usually results in a crash.

The specs of my newly built PC are as follows:

OS: Windows 11 Enterprise (Version 22H2)
CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (MSI model)
Memory: 128GB DDR5 RAM (4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance CMK64GX5M2B6400C32)
Storage: 4TB NVMe SSD
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX

I have all the latest drivers, and I am using the most recent version of Agisoft Metashape (I encountered the same errors on the previous version as well). After submitting my crash logs to Agisoft customer support, they inspected them and let me know that they do not appear to be connected to any known issues. They suggested there was a high chance that these problems were caused by faulty RAM modules, and recommended I test the RAM with Memtest86. I did this, but the test passed with zero errors (see the attached report). I am running my system without XMP or any other overclocking features.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions or ideas about what is causing these application crashes!

Thanks,
Colby
