Hallo Mdaemon,

what about disabling reference for your pictures after alignment and optimise with GCPs only?

2) I know they can be imported, manually. The question is: can we automate the process, so no manual work is needed, assigning the correct x,y,z to each GCP.

We need a fully automated workflow, from data upload, to finished DEM/ortho (with GCP´s) output.

Yes should be possible in principle with a script, but the detection of the coded (and uncoded) targets often needs manual interaction.

Hello Andysmith321,

I have used "Gradual Selection Tool" for reducing the error. In order of reconstruction uncertainty, projection accuracy and reprojection error. I was able to achieve the desired value of 2. However in the process too many points were delete

I use specific values for each project, so that no more than 40-50% points are deleted for each step (reconstruction uncertainty, projection accuracy, reprojection error).

Hello Sune,

to 1) even it's uncommon to use coded targets for aerial photogrammetry (because of the needed size) it should be possible, if the coded targets are of the right size and have a good contrast on the photos. When I remember well, the inner circle of a coded target should have a diameter in the range of 20-200 pixel. So you need a resolution, with which you get these values.
to 2) yes coordinates can be imported for all targets at once.

It works, but only when the projector(s) is/are mounted on the turntable too.  ;)

The pattern needs to be stationary on your object. The same pattern have to be photographed from different positions, so the projector needs to be stationary in relation to the object and can't be mounted on top of a moving camera.
That's why you need more than one projector for some objects.

Hello Schneck007,

the software needs to clearly identify the same feature points in different photos. If your object itself is featureless you can help the software with painting (color) dots on it's surface or project a pattern on the surface. Pattern projection has the advantage, that you can take two shots, one with and one without pattern projection, where the photo with the projected pattern can be used for alignment and mesh generation and the photo without for the texture generation. For pattern projection combined with photos without projection both photos needs to be shot from the exact same place and orientation.

Hi Beth,

I found this from 2017

https://www.int-arch-photogramm-remote-sens-spatial-inf-sci.net/XLII-2-W4/33/2017/isprs-archives-XLII-2-W4-33-2017.pdf

and a newer dissertation by Kun Zhan from 2022:

https://elib.uni-stuttgart.de/handle/11682/12565

so it's not only possible.  ;)

General / Re: Can I change the camera file path
« on: February 14, 2023, 03:02:05 PM »
Hi JacquesMDC,

right click on a photo in photos window, reference or workspace and choose 'Change Path...'. You are then asked if you want to change the path of 'All images', 'Entire workspace' or 'Selected images' only.

Hi j.niles,

perhaps your current view is not 100% orthogonal to the coordinate system?

Hi vkam,

1. I have just exported cameras from an existing project as XML-file.
2. Created a new project.
3  Added photos
4. Imported the cameras XML-file (images are aligned and references are disabled after this step)
5. Built tie points in upcoming menu (can be done in 'Tools/TiePoints/Build Tie Points...' too)

All works fine here.

Btw. there are other file fomats for camera export as you might know, see attchment.

Hi vkam,

generally you can import cameras with intrinsics and extrinsics with the 'import cameras' command. But you need a project, where you have calibrated all cameras and exported them as XML-file (or in an other desired format) before.

Even this a little old , it's from 2016, perhaps it gives you an idea of the process:

Hi John_H,

Is the statement of Agisoft

Free update
Update from Metashape 1.x to Metashape 2.0 is completely free and does not require any additional payments from the licensed users.

really not valid for a floating license?

No, it's not aerial photogrammetry, so I was expecting a panoramic image.

This is what I would expect as well. Perhaps it has to do with the export out of Cyclone?

Hi Paulo,

it was a misunderstanding at my side. You meant that you fly at a height to get 7-8cm GSD and not that you fly at 7-8 cm as I have read it, right?  :)

Hi John_H,

so then the pointcloud is a "traditional" structured TLS pointcloud and not an arial pointcloud as you get with the BLKFLY or BLK2GO (and for which you need version 2.0)

I have imported a 3,6 GB pointcloud made with a RTC360 in E57 format, exported in Cyclone, on a much smaller PC (32 GB RAM, GTX 1080 8192 MB) in Metashape 2.0 successfully. The pointcloud was referenced in Cyclone before to a local house system and was then imported in Metashape. The photos were then aligned to the pointcloud (3 photos were not).  DEM and orthomosaic were derived from classified laser pointcloud.

*Also, when I tried importing the acans into 1.8, the images didn't appear at all, which is an issue as I will have to go back to that version when my 2.0 trial expires

Existing users of Metashape (versions below 2.0) can upgrade to version 2.0 at no cost.

Best regards,

Kiesel
