try Cloudcompare

perfectly suited to your project

not possible, I'm afraid.... It would be so nice !

70/60 overlap seems OK

I'm convinced the problem is related to moving leaves
=> Try flying when there is no wind
I suggest you do a test with the same equipment and same flying parameters on non moving objects (building, power line tow'er, etc.
May be on a dead tree (no leaves)

tree canopies are one of the most difficults objects to modelize.
reasons are (at least the ones I identified)
- complex texture -> potential confusions during matching process)
- if the leaves move between 2 successive photos, the (small) displacement could generate "false" parallaxes => noise in the model.

A solution is to use synchronized twin cameras (works find on an helicopter and analyse the stereo images using traditional photogrammetry, but then you loose all tghe benefits of SFM approach to generate large point clouds.

if your site is not too large, and if you still have access to it, you can try measuring relative elevations.
I did it on an illegal dump site: used the highest point as a reference and measure the height of several points with a graduated pole ( 5m range pole). In my case, the reference level was provided by a laser level, but I used long time ago a simple transparent plastic pipe filled with water. Of course, this will only work on small sites !

is there a possibility to toggle between selection mode (rectangle, ellipse, freehand) and navigation mode (arrow). This would made editing much easier. (similar to pressing space bar in Photoshop always toggle to pan mode -very convenient)
Hello nadar,

Have you tried using Space? It should switch between the navigation mode and the last selected selection instrument.

Thanks. Works fine. Will save me loads of time and stress !

After several tests, definitely you need the option to import point clouds (*.las), and also the option of importing DEM,

Hello

Some jpeg images do not display in the previsualisation windows (bottom part of the image list in workspace pane). The first images of the list display correctly, but after 10-20, a message "previsualisation not available" is displayed. This is quite annoying, because I usually use this window to find the image I want to use to place a GCP.
The problem was not observed in previous version

Is there a possibility to display a DEM and/or contour lines within Photoscan ?

Is there a possibility to export a dense cloud (.LAS or .PLY) to an external point cloud editor, edit it, then re-import the modified cloud into Photoscan ?
(I'm still looking for a solution to clean noisy clouds and to interactively remove unwanted parts)

It is a laplacian based implementation nadar, you can have a look at it in google :-)

I know what a Laplacian filter is in 2D raster image processing. I assume for a 3D grid , it will use a 3x3x3 kernel or something like this. I deon't understand how it works on a irregularly spaced dataset such as a point cloud. If you have good references...

Hello nadar,

Smoothing feature for dense cloud wouldn't be included in the version 1.2.

Could you please give some explanation on how mesh smoothing is implemented . Does it analyse the 3D position of each planar facet, or doest it smooth the position of the points defining the corners of each face ?

standard GPS positional accuracy is about 5 m in X&Y and 10m in 5.
If your flight altitude is about 10m above ground, don't expect too much from these data. I would rather orient photos in generic or disabled mode and rely on high-precision GCPs only
